russian intensifies
[When you wake up on this fine morning and check your Retrospec feed, you'll find... Russian spam? It begins - ]
Доброе утро. Меня зовут Аня. [ - and it continues on from there, resulting in a full paragraph.
For anyone who can read Cyrillic, they'll find the following message: Good morning. My name is Anya. Is anyone able to understand this? I recognize it as Cyrillic, as Russian, however I don't recall ever being able to speak this language. I woke up and suddenly it's all I knew. If the people on here remember horses, maybe they remember me speaking differently? Properly? Maybe? Please let me know.
In an entirely separate text, she tries again. In two more languages.]
おはようございます。私の名前はAnyaです。わかりますか?これは日本語です。でも昨日でAnyaは日本語を話しません。
[ - and that also goes on. An English message, with the same approximate fluency level as the Japanese, to explain the whole situation is finally provided at the end. Third try's the charm?]

Normally Anya is full of life. There's a skip in her step, there's a smile on her face, there's a whole-hearted willingness to tackle the day and everything that it brings her. It was easy to call Anya cheerful and friendly.
That doesn't appear to be the case anymore.
She avoids her friends. She ducks her head and doesn't make eye contact at school. She doesn't open her mouth to speak once, brows furrowed and lips pressed into a thin line.
Yet with her head bowed as it is, it's hard to steer clear of others, isn't it? Which is why she bumps into you - somewhere. She still wanders, even if she isn't at her best. Whether it's at school, at the dance studio, wandering around the city, she seems to have accidentally run right into you.
Startled, she exclaims in smooth Russian:]
Извините! [Then her eyes widen and she seems to pause, having to take a sincere moment to recall the words she's looking for. Even now, a distinct Russian accent colors her words.] Ah, um... I'm sorry...
[There's no helping the sad, defeated look on her face - but Anya is still a very gentle girl. Even though she wants to be by herself, she finds herself looking up to whoever she ran into uncertainly.]
Are you okay...?
[ b: секрет
Distracted as she is, Anya isn't really noticing any of the secrets that are posted around today - or her own. So there's a neat little sign posted on her back, whether it's detailing something small like:]
i ) Anastasia sometimes sneaks out to climb the rooftop of her house even though her mother has told her not to.
ii ) Anastasia used to be a cheerleader.
[Or something a little bit more telling like:]
iii ) Anastasia doesn't like to be left alone.
iv ) Anastasia is too scared to be an idol anymore.
[ ooc: anya's regain was her canon language tick! an example can be found here! complete with sprinkles of Russian and accent. an additional note is that if you hover over the different alphabets, the exact translation should come up! AND FINALLY, Anya's hair used to be the lightest shade of the blonde in the world - and now it's gone full silver, but that's the least of her problems.]

The change was... внезапный? Fast?
[and her friends and family would literally destroy the city if she got hurt that badly??]
no subject
[She sighs.]
Putting aside causes for the moment...
What we should try to do, before we do anything else, is see how much English you can learn in...a rush. If the information is still there somewhere, it should be a matter of you relearning how to find it.
no subject
Learn? And... memorize?
[admittedly anya's memory is pretty stellar - execution is just difficult. but she's interested in seeing this develop too]
no subject
Typically the way to learn a language quickly would be immersion. Dump you in an environment where you would have to learn the language to function. You'd get a week crash course and get sent out into, say, a major city another country.
That's going to happen now anyway, since you're here. You'll be inundated with English everywhere you go.
[Regina is clearly in professor mode now.]
So the goal would be to avoid your other two languages in the short-term. If people speak to you in Russian or Japanese, ask them to speak in English. Try to respond always in English.
This might seem like an odd question but, what language are you thinking in?
no subject
There's a little bit of a struggle at that. A quiet little noise that says that she's clearly disappointed. It's hard - to think that she won't be able to speak with anyone at all in Russian, even though she has a friend who does speak it. It sounds... lonely to not be able to get her feelings across how she wants.]
Russian... In my head there is very little English.
[to best explain it?]
Извините... Ah - excuse me. I know that you are trying to help. And I am grateful.
But... could I speak to one person in Russian? A friend? Not saying what I want to anyone sounds... lonely.
no subject
[Regina could understand wanting to speak to someone in the easiest language, really.]
If not, I would...suggest, no. At least for a few days, perhaps a week. But it's up to you in the end.
no subject
I do not want to be... Mm. трудный? Hard? Stubborn? Ah... I do not want to argue because you are trying to help. I will try my best.
It is just... a little lonely.
no subject
You would still be speaking to people. Just trying to use your English exclusively.
no subject
[She frowns. Loneliness has always been an issue of hers, and she feels like this just puts one more barrier in between herself and the people she loves. That... that is something that she's not sure if she could articulate even if she tried, though.]
I like everyone who talks to me. But when I am speaking... I do not have all the words to say what I mean. It is like...
разъединять? Even if they want to understand, I do not know if I can match.
It is... like that? To not have anyone able to understand all of my words... or to not be able to talk to someone who does.
no subject
[Regina remembered her own struggles plopping herself into another country for a month to try and smooth her language skills. It was always a little lonely to not feel understand.]
It is up to you. I think, eventually, you will have to take some time to really focus on your English. A few weeks at least. But when you do that is your choice.
no subject
... N- [She was definitely going for "nyet", but she corrects herself.] No. Ah. If I should focus on the English that I have...
That is what I will do.
I will do my best.
no subject
I can also make up a few simple vocabulary tests and such, we can try to get a handle on what you do and don't remember. As a place to start on relearning.
If you're interested, of course.
no subject
I am. I really am.
[And she pauses before asking her own question - ]
Do you like... Mm. Flowers? Or sweets? You are helping me and I do not have anything to match.
I would like to try.
no subject
[A small pause.]
But I would never say no to a few flowers for my office.
no subject
What kinds?
And your office is where?
no subject
Ah...the music department. My name is on the door.
[Which she still thought was sort of cool.]
You really don't have to do anything, though.
no subject
There's a small smile that can be heard in her voice as she answers.]
No... Not because - have to? Because I want to. Please let me.
no subject
And I'll see about writing up a few tests for you by the time you get here.
no subject
Thank you. I will be there soon.
[with a lovely bouquet of flowers!]

[Ooc: Do you want to do another thread somewhere later in the month with them meeting and perhaps doing some language exercises? We could make a log or somesuch.]
