russian intensifies
[When you wake up on this fine morning and check your Retrospec feed, you'll find... Russian spam? It begins - ]
Доброе утро. Меня зовут Аня. [ - and it continues on from there, resulting in a full paragraph.
For anyone who can read Cyrillic, they'll find the following message: Good morning. My name is Anya. Is anyone able to understand this? I recognize it as Cyrillic, as Russian, however I don't recall ever being able to speak this language. I woke up and suddenly it's all I knew. If the people on here remember horses, maybe they remember me speaking differently? Properly? Maybe? Please let me know.
In an entirely separate text, she tries again. In two more languages.]
おはようございます。私の名前はAnyaです。わかりますか?これは日本語です。でも昨日でAnyaは日本語を話しません。
[ - and that also goes on. An English message, with the same approximate fluency level as the Japanese, to explain the whole situation is finally provided at the end. Third try's the charm?]

Normally Anya is full of life. There's a skip in her step, there's a smile on her face, there's a whole-hearted willingness to tackle the day and everything that it brings her. It was easy to call Anya cheerful and friendly.
That doesn't appear to be the case anymore.
She avoids her friends. She ducks her head and doesn't make eye contact at school. She doesn't open her mouth to speak once, brows furrowed and lips pressed into a thin line.
Yet with her head bowed as it is, it's hard to steer clear of others, isn't it? Which is why she bumps into you - somewhere. She still wanders, even if she isn't at her best. Whether it's at school, at the dance studio, wandering around the city, she seems to have accidentally run right into you.
Startled, she exclaims in smooth Russian:]
Извините! [Then her eyes widen and she seems to pause, having to take a sincere moment to recall the words she's looking for. Even now, a distinct Russian accent colors her words.] Ah, um... I'm sorry...
[There's no helping the sad, defeated look on her face - but Anya is still a very gentle girl. Even though she wants to be by herself, she finds herself looking up to whoever she ran into uncertainly.]
Are you okay...?
[ b: секрет
Distracted as she is, Anya isn't really noticing any of the secrets that are posted around today - or her own. So there's a neat little sign posted on her back, whether it's detailing something small like:]
i ) Anastasia sometimes sneaks out to climb the rooftop of her house even though her mother has told her not to.
ii ) Anastasia used to be a cheerleader.
[Or something a little bit more telling like:]
iii ) Anastasia doesn't like to be left alone.
iv ) Anastasia is too scared to be an idol anymore.
[ ooc: anya's regain was her canon language tick! an example can be found here! complete with sprinkles of Russian and accent. an additional note is that if you hover over the different alphabets, the exact translation should come up! AND FINALLY, Anya's hair used to be the lightest shade of the blonde in the world - and now it's gone full silver, but that's the least of her problems.]

to be honest, Anya's been intercepted by plenty of people throughout her day, so she seems at least... calmer? by the time that 4 o'clock rolls around and she finds herself reaching for Grell's hand as soon as she sees her in the lobby]
Auntie...
[now with a new neat russian accent]
no subject
Katzi. How was practice?
[the question's only filler to get them outside, out of the way of everyone else coming or going.]
no subject
всегдашний...? [At least she's not wincing at every time she lets some Russian slip now.] It was... the same.
Which I liked.
[even if she can't speak well, at least she can still dance?]
no subject
[when they're outside, she pulls Anya to the side, wrapping her in a strong hug. for a moment, Grell says nothing, hoping the hug can be enough to convey how she feels - that Anya's okay, really, that she remembers her, that Anya got through the day. that's a tiny victory in itself.]
no subject
Anya will let herself be pulled into the hug, burying her face in Grell's chest and returning the hug immediately. Her fingers curl into the cloth of Grell's clothes, clinging ever so slightly. She's gotten a lot of hugs today... but it's easier for her to feel like she can be a little weaker around her family.
She's not yet to the point of crying - but it's about as emotional as Anya's ever gotten.]
no subject
when Anya seems like she wants to let go, that's when Grell will, but not before.]
You know, I always wanted to learn another language. Why not make it Russian?
[said as if this was the easiest thing in the world.]
no subject
Mm? You... would? почему? Why...?
It is hard to learn languages...
[she says, now grappling with three]
no subject
[she knows learning as an adult is different from learning since birth, but there's a hidden stubbornness when she really wants to do something.]
You'll know three and I'll know three. Though it'll be interesting to start with an entirely new alphabet...but then you'd be able to talk to me in whichever language you wanted.
no subject
Anya pauses - and then she smiles, considerably happier and more genuine than it's been so far. Her entire day was difficult, to say the least, but given all these reassurances and attempts to make her feel more at home...]
Да. I would like that.
Anya will help teach what Auntie wants to learn. And if Auntie wants to teach German, that too.

Languages are Громоздкий. Ah. Hard? Stubborn? Maybe... Very big. But even though I am not able to handle them very well yet...
It is... new?
To be able to say many different things now. Even if it is not always.. Точный? The same.
[Though it did take a day for her to come to this conclusion.]
no subject
[she hmmms thoughtfully, letting the words sit. learning something new and it not being terrifying, but interesting. new, like a new set of clothes or new books.]
All the new words for everything, with sometimes those slightly different meanings. It's almost exciting.
no subject
Да. Yes, like that. And I can talk to Yuratchka and Viktor now...
It is harder to talk to people but - I am trying not to be sad. It will only make other people more sad if I am. Like... Mmm.... Dominoes?
no subject
[she nods solemnly before smiling again.]
Remember this - you're still our dear Anya. No matter what language you're speaking.
no subject
She nods, feeling a little bit better about that. She's not changed, right? Even if it is a little bit harder for her to talk.]
Mm. меня самого... I am still Anya.
I will try to remember that.
