russian intensifies
[When you wake up on this fine morning and check your Retrospec feed, you'll find... Russian spam? It begins - ]
Доброе утро. Меня зовут Аня. [ - and it continues on from there, resulting in a full paragraph.
For anyone who can read Cyrillic, they'll find the following message: Good morning. My name is Anya. Is anyone able to understand this? I recognize it as Cyrillic, as Russian, however I don't recall ever being able to speak this language. I woke up and suddenly it's all I knew. If the people on here remember horses, maybe they remember me speaking differently? Properly? Maybe? Please let me know.
In an entirely separate text, she tries again. In two more languages.]
おはようございます。私の名前はAnyaです。わかりますか?これは日本語です。でも昨日でAnyaは日本語を話しません。
[ - and that also goes on. An English message, with the same approximate fluency level as the Japanese, to explain the whole situation is finally provided at the end. Third try's the charm?]

Normally Anya is full of life. There's a skip in her step, there's a smile on her face, there's a whole-hearted willingness to tackle the day and everything that it brings her. It was easy to call Anya cheerful and friendly.
That doesn't appear to be the case anymore.
She avoids her friends. She ducks her head and doesn't make eye contact at school. She doesn't open her mouth to speak once, brows furrowed and lips pressed into a thin line.
Yet with her head bowed as it is, it's hard to steer clear of others, isn't it? Which is why she bumps into you - somewhere. She still wanders, even if she isn't at her best. Whether it's at school, at the dance studio, wandering around the city, she seems to have accidentally run right into you.
Startled, she exclaims in smooth Russian:]
Извините! [Then her eyes widen and she seems to pause, having to take a sincere moment to recall the words she's looking for. Even now, a distinct Russian accent colors her words.] Ah, um... I'm sorry...
[There's no helping the sad, defeated look on her face - but Anya is still a very gentle girl. Even though she wants to be by herself, she finds herself looking up to whoever she ran into uncertainly.]
Are you okay...?
[ b: секрет
Distracted as she is, Anya isn't really noticing any of the secrets that are posted around today - or her own. So there's a neat little sign posted on her back, whether it's detailing something small like:]
i ) Anastasia sometimes sneaks out to climb the rooftop of her house even though her mother has told her not to.
ii ) Anastasia used to be a cheerleader.
[Or something a little bit more telling like:]
iii ) Anastasia doesn't like to be left alone.
iv ) Anastasia is too scared to be an idol anymore.
[ ooc: anya's regain was her canon language tick! an example can be found here! complete with sprinkles of Russian and accent. an additional note is that if you hover over the different alphabets, the exact translation should come up! AND FINALLY, Anya's hair used to be the lightest shade of the blonde in the world - and now it's gone full silver, but that's the least of her problems.]

Which is why she's back to ground-level, balancing carefully on the balls of her feet as she squats down and reaches out to the dog, excitedly introducing herself.]
Kara? Привет! Меня зовут Аня. Гав-гав...! [A smile.] Do you understand Russian?
[she's still easily distracted at least]
no subject
kara has no idea what was just said to her but the young lady seems nice. and if her master likes her then she likes her!! mark of approval: a tail wagging so hard it almost looks like it'll fly off her butt if not for the fact it was attached to her.
pleased to see the two of them getting along, ainsley claps her hands together and thinks things are looking up now. ]
I think we can take that as a yes! Come on- I think I know a shortcut to get to the cafe faster.
no subject
Anya is excited at that, happily scratching Kara behind her ears for a moment before nodding at Ainsley's suggestion. Anya brings up the hood of her jacket to cover up her silver hair so that they receive a few less looks and she straightens up so that they can go.]
Да. Okay. Lead the way.
[And Anya will most certainly follow!]
no subject
it has been scientifically proven in the past and continues to be proven with how kara sticks to anya's side, tail wagging and showing her nothing but affection and devotion as they made their way to the little cafe. the dog is doing her best to make her new friend feel comfortable, whatever the dog's reasons were. general doggy kindness? an understanding of how it felt to be gawked at?
it's hard to say. what matters is that even after they arrive there, kara refuses to leave anya's side until ainsley manages to secure a table for them. a loyal dog all the while. ] Feel free to order whatever you want!

мятный...!
[ . . . oh wait. She blinks, then corrects herself as she tries to remember the word she needs.]
Ah! Um. Mint.... Peppermint hot chocolate. [The words are a little foreign - they sound foreign with her accent - but she offers a sheepish little smile for her original mistake.
Please don't laugh at her?]
no subject
kara gets something too- a bowl of water for now and a biscuit as a treat for being the best dog for sticking to anya's side. though anya should probably watch out for water splashes as kara begins to drink from the bowl.
when the waiter leaves to get their orders running, ainsley's cheerful expression softens to something more thoughtful when turning her attention to anya. better to breach the conversation now than later. ]
So- How long has it been like this, dear?
no subject
So she contemplates that question for a moment, though the answer itself is rather clear to her.]
This morning.... [She shakes her head.] Внезапный... Very fast? I woke up like this. With the hair change and my thoughts were in Russian.
But my words for English were... not so much anymore?
no subject
ainsley had read up on something that was called the marie antoinette syndrome- hair turning white from shock or fear. but anya seemed alright and there was no way it could have happened overnight.
she sighs, unsure of what to say at first. ] I wish I knew what caused this but I think your guess would be good as mine right now. But! I'll do my best to help you out in anyway I can. Count on that, Anya.
Guess it's high time I learned a bit more Russian. [ she smiled, trying her best to keep this lighthearted for the sake of her former student. ] High time I actually use those phrasebooks I bought a million years ago.
no subject
There's a nod of gratitude.]
If you would.... that would make me happy. [There are more complicated words for the feelings she has, but she can't reach for them just yet. She shakes her head.] I will... try harder with my English too.
There is some Japanese too... Mm. I will try to adapt to both.
no subject
[ really. anyone who is willing to be barraged by ainsley's almost weekly e-mail of encouragements and emojis deserves the world and back. and if it meant she had to stay up late to understand the intricacies of russian, she'll be willing to do and she is willing to do that.
when the bit about japanese is brought up, ainsley does perk up a considerable amount. ] I know a bit of that. It's very rusty but- Yes! I think we can make this work.
Don't worry, Anya. Others and I have your back no matter what.
