My eBay account got suspended.

I have not used eBay in awhile so I guess I don't know the proper protocol for someone outbidding you for a cursed doll. Cursed with either a violent curse or a child's soul. The seller didn't specify.

It is not proper etiquette to e-mail the person you were bidding against and ask them to sell it to you rather than use it for their BuzzFeed article. Or let them be aware that you were honestly hoping it had some soul trapped in it to give it to friends in the hope that it will come to life in the middle of the night to do whatever cursed dolls do.

Who knew. I thought we were both cursed doll enthusiasts.

The horror movies is mildly interesting.
What type of stories do you like?

probably, but the local brews in this city are pretty good
though it was easier getting things brought at one point, though maybe I just imagined all of that? not being on the app until recently is a pain in the ass

I'm not all that picky, but I'd be lying if I said body horror wasn't one of my favorites

It is a little.
You don't realize what you have or have not been able to do.
You don't even know if what you recall is truth.
It's troubling, for certain.

I'm afraid I always fall asleep during movies.
Even horror movies.
But I still try to watch at least one movie a month.
Anyway, that isn't one I chose.
What's it about?

a man who runs a television station is shown a plotless tv show out of malaysia called "videodrome", filmed in a red room where people are brutally tortured and murdered
because he's a shitty guy, he tells his station to start airing the show
he learns that the videodrome program is actually a form of brainwashing
he gets a betamax tape shoved into him, brainwashing him into going on a killing spree

So he is punished for his sadism.

the special effects look kind of funny today, though

Well, of course.

Still, it is a story of interest.
A person who sees something horrifying and instead of drawing away from it, the horror draws him closer.
It seems more the story wanted to save the man in the end.
But he probably would have started killing on his own.
He just now has something to blame for it.

in the end, he learns there was a conspiracy to kill people like him

I don't know, I guess there's some parallels between our friends in retrospec, and the bad guys
if this is some elaborate prison to punish bad guys, my hat's off to them

An elaborate prison to punish evil?
That is to allow us to gain morals and decency -- then remind us of our crimes.
To see if we will repeat the old mistakes?
Or suffer under the weight of our sins?

Which do you think would be best?

isn't that one of those "which would you rather" questions when both options are equally horrible?

it's not like I've remembered anything about this previous me, but I think it's hard to compare yourself to a person you don't remember being

It is hard to compare, and I won't deny it.

But which would you consider best?
Like, when you watched the ending of the movie, did you think that he got what he deserved?
Or that he should have been saved by those that knew what he was like?
Is he only a victim of circumstance?
Or is he truly evil?

well, if we're going to use him as our metaphor, he was a slimy guy who got taken advantage of in much the same way he took advantage of previous situations

so in that sense, he's not so much evil as he is doomed to nihilistic destruction

But what of his decisions?
If he is doomed to nihilistic destruction, you believe it would have happened no matter what choice he settled upon?
So you absolve him of being evil and consider it a prison where he could not win?

Then what would you say is the nature of his "evil" actions?
If there is nothing evil in them and but the prison he is trapped in, what meaning do his actions have?

ah, but that's just it, because besides the initial action of him deciding to pirate a snuff film, much of his actions were not his own

oh, sure, nobody knew that, possibly not even himself, but at the end of the day he was a very fleshy puppet

In the end, everything that he thought was a choice ended up being nothing more than a scripted play.
Unfortunate.

So. Do you think he should have come back to his senses rather than be killed as a monster? Do you think he should have lived after what he did, and atone?
Or that it is better to have let the play finish without change? No evil done because the evil was without choice.

even if he had come back to his senses, he still would have died because of his hubris
