You know, I think some April Fool's pranks are okay! Like the silly ones they do on websites or the really good natured kind. But I am LESS okay with someone changing the ENTIRE layout of our entire building and giving us treasure maps to go around it which for the record my brother-in-law did and it's a pain!! There's some weird effects coming in from outside this planet at the moment, although they'll mostly miss the city itself. There'll be a localized temporal storm, but it shouldn't be more than a mild irritation. It looks like it's just going to yank some things around and send them on through. I think Maurice is going to call out sick that day, or if I were him I definitely would. Hey, I kind of want a four-leaf clover. I know that's more last month than this month, but still. If you find one, pass it along. Also, I want to do a cutesy April Fools thing, so don't get too mad! Joanne Wiseman Technician 2nd class Retr ![]() For the remainder of the day all users will have their userpic replaced with a picture of them dressed as their favorite animal. It's pretty harmless as far as pranks go, and it will change back either at midnight or after trying to change the picture twice, prompting an "Are you sure?" message but no further ill effects.
Per the mod plotting post, you may use this post to obtain one of this month's freebies! This month's freebie can be earned by turning in a thread on this post that has 5 or more consecutive comments from you with someone new. We define someone new as someone new to the game, or simply someone your character has never tagged before. Please feel free to use this post as a network mingle. Every toplevel can be considered a new post, and threadjacking is permitted. No NPC response will be given. Usernames are the character's full real AU names, not aliases or chosen nicknames or usernames, and seemed to have filled themselves in; nothing characters do can change or obscure their names currently. This post is the overflow for the post originally found here! Please feel free to make new toplevels or simply shift your threads over. |
Re: MATT
Wouldn't that be something? It's worth a shot. I worry about their safety when they treat potentially dangerous effects as normal.
[ Next thing you know they'll be walking into dragon mouths without realizing it. Matt does not recommend this. ]
I don't think of the unknown as inherently bad or dangerous so it doesn't bother me in the general sense. It might help that I was forced to navigate a world without knowing what it looks like.
Sometimes knowledge is worse. Knowing something is bad and being unable to do anything about it. That is what gets under my skin.

wouldn't it be up to us then to keep everybody else safe?
you're not missing much sometimes. on the other hand i like to think that some things are so vivid you don't need to even be able to see them to know how you feel about them. maybe that's insensitive.
sorry, anyway...
on that same note you're right. knowledge is worse. but i also like to think if we know about it, that means there's still a chance we can do something about it even if it seems impossible.
no subject
We definitely should be looking out for the sleepers. I'm sure they would do the same for us if our places were reversed.
It's fine. You're actually right. I've experienced it firsthand. [ Pre-super senses too. Now it's in HD. ] Sometimes vision is a distraction, really. Not to drag out the religious references but staying true to what you feel like that even without seeing everything is in a word, faith.
True. That's a nice positive spin on that. Circumstances can always change.
no subject
we will. we will do everything to keep them safe.
here's a weird, probably not entirely related question.
can you have faith in something and still not be religious?
no subject
Definitely. If you feel that type of devotion and belief in something it's still faith. Some people have faith in optimistic views like humanity or that everything happens for a reason. I'm sure you've met someone like that before.
no subject
well.
i think i have those powers.
not here but i did back there.
and i think i made the right choice then maybe. it is complicated.
i might have known a few optimists, yeah. i just wasn't sure if that counted, so thanks. i do appreciate that.
no subject
I get the distinct impression that you're an optimist yourself.
no subject
but i guess. someone once said "optimism through stalwart skepticism is a defect not everyone is lucky enough to be cursed with." and i know she was talking about me but...maybe! i do not mind being an optimist if it will help everybody else.
no subject
I wouldn't say being an optimist is an inherently bad thing. Most of the time it is helpful.
no subject
as long as optimism is helpful rather than making things worse then maybe you're right.
but i think there is a difference between optimism and naivety.
it is the latter i do not want.
no subject
The fact you're concerned about naivety will help you avoid some of it. In my experience it sneaks up on you even as an adult. But that's life.
no subject
and yeah, i noticed. but i also noticed sometimes life is bullshit matt. i haven't figured out how to avoid that part yet.
no subject
That's another one I wish I had better luck with myself but my track record has been unimpressive in several areas.
Endurance builds character?
no subject
i think maybe that is probably painted on the wall of my old high school somewhere, matt. but i get what you're saying.
we're doing our best and maybe that's all we can do anymore.

I'm starting to sound like a motivational poster.
I wonder if they hang any of those on the walls at Retrospec HQ?
no subject
now i kind of want to meet thor...
but i bet they do. it'd explain why they are so blase about everything that happens here.
but oh well.
