You know, I think some April Fool's pranks are okay! Like the silly ones they do on websites or the really good natured kind. But I am LESS okay with someone changing the ENTIRE layout of our entire building and giving us treasure maps to go around it which for the record my brother-in-law did and it's a pain!!

There's some weird effects coming in from outside this planet at the moment, although they'll mostly miss the city itself. There'll be a localized temporal storm, but it shouldn't be more than a mild irritation. It looks like it's just going to yank some things around and send them on through. I think Maurice is going to call out sick that day, or if I were him I definitely would.

Hey, I kind of want a four-leaf clover. I know that's more last month than this month, but still. If you find one, pass it along.

Also, I want to do a cutesy April Fools thing, so don't get too mad!

For the remainder of the day all users will have their userpic replaced with a picture of them dressed as their favorite animal. It's pretty harmless as far as pranks go, and it will change back either at midnight or after trying to change the picture twice, prompting an "Are you sure?" message but no further ill effects.

Per the mod plotting post, you may use this post to obtain one of this month's freebies! This month's freebie can be earned by turning in a thread on this post that has 5 or more consecutive comments from you with someone new. We define someone new as someone new to the game, or simply someone your character has never tagged before.

Please feel free to use this post as a network mingle. Every toplevel can be considered a new post, and threadjacking is permitted. No NPC response will be given. Usernames are the character's full real AU names, not aliases or chosen nicknames or usernames, and seemed to have filled themselves in; nothing characters do can change or obscure their names currently.

This post is the overflow for the post originally found here! Please feel free to make new toplevels or simply shift your threads over.

Try not to think of it as "thing" and "anti-thing". Think of it more as blending of whole concepts not defined by the presence or lack of the other. Complimentary instead of contradictory.

two opposites existing in harmony

If that's easier for you to conceptualize. Personally, I find it difficult to express it all in words alone. It's very abstract.

then it's okay to be cute?

it feels weird. it's like calling an apple an orange...

[personal profile] liberal_arts 2018-04-23 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Not at all. It's more like calling an "apple" a "ringo" because the Japanese word is more diminutive and endearing.

wait is that what they're really called in japanese

[personal profile] liberal_arts 2018-04-23 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
It is! Or at least that's what I've always seen them called. 林檎, though you'll likely more often see it written out as kana, りんご. The kanji doesn't usually show up unless it's a proper name, such as listing specific types of apples.

i don't know japanese at all but that sounds really interesting

why are there so many different ways of writing stuff?

The Japanese language developed from the logographic Chinese language system of "hanzi". The other scripts, the syllabary kana, are a necessary part of expanding our own language as well as translating other languages into Japanese.

[personal profile] ohrlyeh 2018-05-07 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
you have a whole script for translating other languages into your language?? why can't english do that
liberal_arts: (another couple of rounds)

[personal profile] liberal_arts 2018-05-09 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Because English is phonetic and kin to Roman languages. For you, it's simple a matter of converting the language into a script you can read.

It is much more difficult to do with something like kanji. The kana systems were absolutely necessary.
