We agree on that much. Every time I'm told to live a little, it tends to translate as "do something stupid and unwise," and those are the exact words that cross my mind.

Yeah, I feel like that's usually what they mean, and who has time for that? Though I do feel like I could take up more opportunities than I have sometimes.

Exactly! Who has the time? Chaos is not only time consuming but exhausting, it leaves no room for anything else in a person's life. The more you organize and follow the plans you've set for yourself, the more free time you'll earn for things like spontaneity thanks to your own diligence.

[Is he really this boring? Well, yes, but it's at least in part because he believes his own bullshit.]

Opportunities are a different matter. Or they can be, at least. What sort do you find yourself sitting out?

Well that maybe, and "chaos" is just annoying! If everything just goes all over the place, you have to pick up the pieces yourself and who has time for that?

[ She just doesn't like to be put out of her comfort zone, apparently. ]

Oh you know, various things. Like not taking a better job or something. Or saying no to a hot guy just because he wasn't rich.

Why do you think you turn things down like that, without even giving them a chance, when they do have some level of promise?

I know that's a heavy question, so full disclosure: personally, I do it because I assume anything that promising has to have a massive catch that'll trip me up later, and it's never worth finding out if the good will balance it out.

Welllll, you know. Just little insecurities that get in the way and then seem pretty stupid later on. I guess that's the best answer I can give.

That's part of my objection to this old canard about always acting because you're more likely to regret what you haven't done than what you have. If you're under the sway of those sorts of thoughts, inaction can save something that action is more likely to destroy.

Yeah, you're right. We don't need to be out there doing everything all the time, that's just not even logical! Sometimes not doing anything is the best, and that doesn't make you any less of a person!
