I think this time it was attributed to Mark Twain, of all people. Christ.

Why did that other one even catch on like that? It seems like there should be some clever wordplay there but there really isn't. The inversion was already obviously implied in the original statement.

The fact that you thought about it hard enough to spot the redundancy immediately marks you as outside the intended audience, who prefer not to think at all.
