As long as the changes were being made to our memories, it was plausible to argue that this was some sort of hypnosis, something done by Retrospec to our brains. However:

1) The experiment to disconnect from electronics that may be affected by Retrospec returned no results. We still felt the effects while disconnected.

2) This "shrinking" and the holes in reality cannot be explained by hypnosis. They are very real.

At what point do we begin to question the fabric of reality itself?

On some level, perhaps I was too.
It seems like such a far-fetched theory, but what other option is there?

At this rate I'm thinking we're one of those protagonists in a movie where our minds are placed in some sort of computer simulation.

[Not that he's in any position to do anything about any speculative theory right now. He's a guy that messes with money, and that's about it. No excitement there.]

I've considered such a possibility, yes.
It seems arrogant to assume we're the protagonists, however.

You're always the protagonist of your own story. Maybe not the hero, but most people are the main character in their life. Put on your own oxygen mask before helping others, you know?

If this is indeed some sort of simulation, I would imagine it has a purpose.
Some of us would be more critical to that purpose than others.
In which case it might not be entirely inaccurate to say that there would exist a "protagonist."

I would say they're probably the antagonists then. But we have to watch out for that moral ambiguity. It makes things tricky.

Realistically speaking, dividing a complex topic up into heroes and villains rarely accomplishes anything.

Rarely. But I was talking in the context of a movie in the beginning there.

The point being how do we even know any of this is real? And I don't mean mass hallucination, I mean maybe

I feel crazy for just suggesting it.

But maybe nothing we've experienced is real.

Or it's just an alien's cry for attention. I hate that my phone made reality entirely theoretical.

Again, as I said, the nature of reality must be questioned.
If we were, perhaps, in a simulation... what would the difference be between a program architect and a god?

Yeah. Sorry about that. It still feels just as difficult to swallow.

I wonder if the people at the police department have any death records of people that died under weird circumstances. Like 'scooped up by hawk' or 'deflated'? It seems like that stuff couldn't change back. People without this 'Retrospec' thing would just read it as normal, right? Maybe it could help people see how long this has been going on, too.

I can examine the records, or whichever ones I have access to.
But I don't see why those records couldn't change, too. They changed horses. Changing text ought to be trivial.

But it's worth looking into, right?
