As long as the changes were being made to our memories, it was plausible to argue that this was some sort of hypnosis, something done by Retrospec to our brains. However:

1) The experiment to disconnect from electronics that may be affected by Retrospec returned no results. We still felt the effects while disconnected.

2) This "shrinking" and the holes in reality cannot be explained by hypnosis. They are very real.

At what point do we begin to question the fabric of reality itself?

You're a doctor. You should know that there's no scientific or rational basis for a "soul."

The same could have been said for gravity and quantum physics when they were first discovered.

You are constraining yourself with what is possible at the limits of modern-day science. The events that have transpired are showing us phenomena that are beyond the limits of our current knowledge. It is important to consider previously impossible hypotheses and investigate them.

Nevertheless, I consider it unlikely or, rather,
unnecessary. Biological distinctions should be all that's needed for their purposes.
I would rather work with facts than fantasy.
