As long as the changes were being made to our memories, it was plausible to argue that this was some sort of hypnosis, something done by Retrospec to our brains. However:

1) The experiment to disconnect from electronics that may be affected by Retrospec returned no results. We still felt the effects while disconnected.

2) This "shrinking" and the holes in reality cannot be explained by hypnosis. They are very real.

At what point do we begin to question the fabric of reality itself?

Really? I would have imagined it might have made forensic analysis more difficult, for lack of being able to see the big picture.

In some respects yes. Mapping out a crime scene was an absolute headache at that size. But you could also see a lot more detail with the naked eye when examining smaller pieces of evidence.

I suppose that's true. It would really just necessitate a heightened level of spatial awareness to keep the big picture in mind.

Pretty much. The big picture just got bigger. It takes a little more mental geometry, but it can be done.

...at any rate, I would greatly prefer to not be that size again.
My dog is difficult enough to deal with at my normal size and mass.

seriously. there's plenty in life that's difficult enough to deal with at full-size.

He's a shepherd mix, so while he's not the largest dog in the world...
...he's still large.

large enough to bowl people over if they have a mind to. i've been roped into helping test the K9 units a few times. never fails that i end up on the ground with eighty pounds of dog on my chest.

My father's police dogs were cared for by my grandfather after his passing, so I grew up with them.
I've always liked shepherds.
They were better trained, though. And older.

It's hard to beat a well-trained police dog.

I remember hearing about him. I didn't join the crime lab until after his passing, so I never had the opportunity to meet him.

I think you would have liked him.
He wasn't a forensic scientist himself, but all of his former colleagues who I've met spoke quite highly of him.
Not that I'd expect them to criticize him to his child's face, of course.

I've read the files of some of the cases he worked on. You can get a pretty good feel for a person by the way they do their paperwork.

You sound like Togusa. Do you know him?

Oh yeah, Togusa's a great guy.

He has impressed upon me the need for paperwork that is both accurate and tidy.
I can't say I enjoy filling it out, though.

He's not wrong about that, but I don't think any of us particularly like filling it out.

A necessary evil, I suppose.
