As long as the changes were being made to our memories, it was plausible to argue that this was some sort of hypnosis, something done by Retrospec to our brains. However:

1) The experiment to disconnect from electronics that may be affected by Retrospec returned no results. We still felt the effects while disconnected.

2) This "shrinking" and the holes in reality cannot be explained by hypnosis. They are very real.

At what point do we begin to question the fabric of reality itself?

There is the possibility of reverse hypnosis, as if we are the ones awake and the others are still dreaming.

Unlikely. How would you explain our recent shrinking, then?

Apologies, I was not clear. I meant that the reason non-Retrospec users do not notice the changes is that they may still be hypnotized.

As for the shrinking, I unfortunately do not have an explanation. I took some samples from myself and they had grown back to the usual size by the time I was able to examine them.

I would argue that it is more likely that we are the ones suffering from hypnosis, purely on a logical basis.

1) We are the smaller population. It is less effort to hypnotize the few rather than the many.

2) There is an obvious culprit for hypnosis: The Retrospec app and its associated effects. In an inverse scenario, wherein we are not affected, then I suppose it could act as a sort of inoculating force... but then how is the rest of the populace affected?

There are some attributes that were gained by our fellows whose existence can be verified by dissection and observation of its effects on non-Retrospec individuals. Unless we are to work with the assumption that Retrospec is able to simulate reality down to fundamental levels, it would imply the converse. If they are able to do that, then it is technology beyond our comprehension at this moment.

Consider that the app could also be a catalyst for awakening, as it were. The populace would be affected by an entirely different force altogether.

I have been considering the theory of the soul, a marker for individuality that is not tied to physical attributes. That could be the way that they identify people and send items to them, for example.

You're a doctor. You should know that there's no scientific or rational basis for a "soul."

The same could have been said for gravity and quantum physics when they were first discovered.

You are constraining yourself with what is possible at the limits of modern-day science. The events that have transpired are showing us phenomena that are beyond the limits of our current knowledge. It is important to consider previously impossible hypotheses and investigate them.

Nevertheless, I consider it unlikely or, rather,
unnecessary. Biological distinctions should be all that's needed for their purposes.
I would rather work with facts than fantasy.
