Right, so. I've seen much and more about Retrospec sending out *weapons* through the post, but I think this might be a first. Whatever it is.

If anyone else out there has some idea of exactly what this is -- aside from the obvious "it's a helmet," thank you, already got that one figured out -- then I'd be glad to hear it, because I haven't got a clue.

And is this helmet something you wore in your memories? I assume not, since you seem rather surprised by it. [I mean, he's also assuming Gabranth has experienced at least one memory before, too. It's not like these two have had this conversion before.]

Anyone who knows me well enough can easily confirm for you that no, I do not.

I've yet to receive any memories of seeing myself in a mirror, so it's a bit difficult to know for certain whether or not it was.

[ wait. wait. there wasn't any mirror, sure, but in his memory of interrogating that man — that caged, emaciated man who looked so uncomfortably like himself — he'd taken something off his own head, hadn't he? was it truly this thing?

this is something he'll have to reflect on later. on his own. for now, though... ]

But I've a feeling that I did wear it, at some point or another in my life.

And yet I feel as if you were wearing a helmet in one of your memories, you would know it. It's difficult to ignore something that obscures your face.

Wearing the rest of the armor, too, I hope. You must have been a very gallant knight. Or someone keen on intimidating.

Gallant, I should hope, but at this point there's no way of knowing for sure. What few memories I've seen so far have lacked any kind of coherency, even where I myself am concerned in them.

As seems to be the norm. My own memories hint at weaving a narrative, and yet the story remains exhaustingly incomplete.

Do you remember much about the world? Is it the sort that men wearing suits of armor would be considered normal?

Honestly, none of what I remember seems to point to anything resembling normalcy. Giant ships flying through the sky, bounty hunting lizard men, hell, even chocobos -- I suppose people going about in ostentatious suits of armor might as well be *normal* for this world.

Actually, it may be surprising. Especially since that's enough to derail Ardyn's train of thought with a single word.]

You have memories of chocobos?

[Freya remembered chocobos, and while Ardyn didn't have the luxury of doing so, it's an odd connection. Because Freya also remembered a behemoth and a tonberry -- and so did he.

So of course he's going to follow up with this a little. Tenuous or otherwise.]

Did they look similar to ones in Recolle? [Freya's didn't.] Describe them.

I only remember one, and I was riding it. It was yellow and it didn't look at all dissimilar from the ones I've seen here.

Similar to the ones in Recolle. Yellow, and even black ones.

If I name a few things, will you tell me if they sound familiar to you?

[ that is what gabranth thinks at first, truthfully, and he's fully prepared to just leave the conversation where it lies. but... ]

[ that doesn't actually come as too much of a surprise to him, given the varieties of colors that seem to exist even here in recolle. but he does wonder if those same varieties existed in the world from his visions... anyway. ]

However, he does remember the names of the monsters he recalled, a few months back. He'll give no preface, and instead only begin to name them outright.]
