Right, so. I've seen much and more about Retrospec sending out *weapons* through the post, but I think this might be a first. Whatever it is.

If anyone else out there has some idea of exactly what this is -- aside from the obvious "it's a helmet," thank you, already got that one figured out -- then I'd be glad to hear it, because I haven't got a clue.

Chloe Bouchard If you were the one to be sent it, you will no doubt know what it is eventually, but I have never seen its like.

Suppose it could be, but this was all that came packed in the box.

If you ask me I'd say it looks more like a movie prop than anything grounded in actual history. But to pick it up... It feels like it's made of real metal, not rubber or anything else.

This and no other bits of armor, I mean. Street clothes rather than Renaissance Faire.

It is not a helmet from the real world, no. That much is painfully obvious if you look at it. Either a movie prop, or perhaps something from a strange fantastical world.

I should warn you, if you haven't had the misfortune of seeing hallucinomemories yet, that some of them do not appear to happen on Earth. I've heard of some very strange ones where such a thing might be believable.

We've got Tatsuo Kihara on the app now. If you want to run the packaging or the helmet through the CSI lab? He's got an open offer to everybody.

You might bring it to one of the history professors at the university. Does it fit? I'd be willing to bet it does, and nearly perfectly.

I would assume more decorative than functional as a helmet. Meant to intimidate rather than protect.

LOL not exactly what I had in mind.
But yeah if you got the whole suit, it would look badass.
Maybe at a Ren Faire or for Halloween?

Good idea. Better idea that I decided not to toss the packaging after all, I suppose. Not sure if the helmet itself would turn up anything useful, though.

I'm inclined to agree. Just looking at it makes it hard to tell just how anyone might see out of this thing.

It's got horns, as well. A grabbing point is a terrible idea for something meant to protect you.

I have seen a few of these "hallucinomemories" already, but

That's assuming an awful lot of what the whole suit is supposed to look like, isn't it? Perhaps it's meant to accompany a chocobo costume, or something of the like.

[ of course, given the helm's ornate style, he seriously doubts that's true. but he knows better at this point than to rule out what might obviously seem impossible, so... ]

Pictures will not be necessary. I can't imagine it looking particularly different once it's on my head.

Perhaps if the horns were angled in such a way that they could be used offensively then they would be less of a liability, but I have a difficult time imagining how that might work.

Really, I can't say I disagree. It leaves me wondering just what the hell Retrospec is doing, sending it to *me*.

[ the obvious answer, and the one he would rather not consider, is that it must have actually belonged to him at some point. but would he really have ever owned something so gaudy...? would he have ever actually worn it? perish the thought. ]
