The tech is one thing... But are you really, absolutely sure you want to put this one? I'm not talking about robot uprisings, I'm... talking about you. How you've lived your life, how you've dealt with... with what happened.

This is a huge step.

[ she stared down at her friend like the touch stung her, but didn't pull away. ] Sure? Hell no, I'm not sure, but I'm not talking about a life-changing decision here.

I'm not about to let a stupid fake arm tell me who I am or what I'm capable of. It's like... my sister's help with my drum kit. Yeah, I couldn't play much without it, but that thing doesn't define me! It's like I keep telling everyone. [ and lying through her teeth all the while, too. Yin always gets so defensive and angry about this shit, that's not new, but there's a passion in the way she's talking about it now. ]

You think I haven't been thinking? I couldn't get this damn thing out of my head ever since I opened that stupid box. Every time I dropped a glass, or stubbed my toe, or had to get someone to reach over to hold something for me I thought: "hey, fuck me running, wouldn't it be great if I could do this myself?"

[ Yin frowned hard. ] I wish I knew who I was anymore. It might seem like a stupid, small thing but — I look in the mirror now, with these new eyes of mine, and I don't even see myself anymore. If I still had my "normal" tone, it'd be taken away by this new fuckery happening. Then what?

[ she took her hand away. ] Okay Miss Tough Guy, you don't see me getting my shrink on with you after you got your super powers, huh? Why's it gotta be different with me?

That's why I need to try it out because if nothing else, I know you can probably crush this thing like a can and drop it in Retrospec's mail slot for me.

[ Yin picked up the arm and plopped down next to May. she took a deep breath to try and calm herself then smiled over at her friend. ] Ride or die.

I'll hold onto it while you slip in. -May picked up the arm. She wasn't sure how heavy a human arm should feel, but she guessed this was close. The plating was... not unlike the mix of fiberglass and steel that was the hull of the Mayship, but way beyond even that.- Whoa...

Thanks. [ that was pretty much the only other reason she came here. her family wouldn't be this understanding about the mystery gift but, more to the point, Yin wouldn't trust anyone else's grubby mitts all over her shiny new chrome arm.

though it's far from chrome. it's got a good heft to it but the alloys are unlike anything anyone's ever seen before. at least unless they were going to space, or putting a fighter jet together. ] Like I said, it's pretty cool, right? That guy said the alloys are something unreal. I should be able to pack a punch with it if he was telling the truth.

[ Yin lined up the now-bare stump with the socket and pushed forward. ] Twist it a bit, will ya?

-May did so, eyes still locked on the arm itself.-

How... is it gonna work? I'm no doctor, but most prosthetics don't allow a lot of motor control...

Uhh, he sort of tried to explain that there's something inside the socket that hooks up to my nerves? I don't remember the word for it.

[ with a bit more shifting and pushing, her arm fit into that socket relatively easily. it startled her. ] Okay now... let go.

Connect to the nerves? That sounds like it's gonna be a bitch, pain wise... Maybe I *should* get you some rum. -May let go, regardless. And... it didn't seem like Yin was in any pain. So far, so good...-

Trust me. I've felt worse. [ that's why she has primo prescriptions after all.

when the arm is on and May lets go, it just sort of... flops. stopping just short of Yin's thigh with a sudden jerk. ] Whoa! [ the motors, or gears, or whatever inside give a gentle whir even as the elbow bends sharply and she plants the clean palm smack dab into her nose. hard. ] OW! FUCK!

No, I'm fucking pissed! Ow! [ the red eyes go good with the bloody nose. she doesn't even realize right away that she's wiping it away with metal fingers. ]

-Actually, it takes May a second, too, but when she does, her eyes go wide.-

What about....? [ she doesn't even finish the sentence. one quick glance down shows the white tips coated in fresh blood and it's enough to make her jerk back in the seat as if she could get away from it.

oh, and now she's shaking. ] Dude, the — how the fuck? It's ... it's just...

[ Yin stared at the hand stretched out from her body as far as possible and watches the fingers open and close with that same, gentle mechanical sound. the joints glide smoothly and flex almost as if they were her own. if she was double-jointed, maybe.

she's less afraid now than a couple of seconds ago. Yin was in awe. ] Holy fucking shit.

Hold up, hold up, uh... -May held up her own hand.- See if you can imitate my hand.

-She formed the "2sweet".-

[ Yin looked back and forth between the fingers and May's hand. after a second she formed a simple pair of horns — even gave her wrist a little flick. ] Wait...

[ a second later, she perfectly imitated the gesture. ] Hah! Shit. I can't believe this. I thought it'd be... harder than this.

This is nutso! -May pushed her hand to Yin's new one- Too sweet, fam, too sweet! That's... wow...

I mean, I still have a fuckton of questions, but this shit works better than anything I've seen.

-May hopped up to grab a roll of paper towels. Not fine tissue, but it'd work in a pinch.-

I don't think I'm smart enough to even ask any of them. Like "How" and "Why".
