She can understand and communicate with chipmunks.

Dude, that's awesome. Chipmunks are everywhere. You would have your own little network of chipmunks to help you out wherever you go.

It's practical, I guess, it just isn't very cool. Or intimidating.

It's totally intimidating. Could you imagine minding your own damn business, then getting warmed by an army of chipmunks? One might not be threatening, but by ten you've got a big problem.
And being able to get information or locate things with your chipmunk friends?
If it's not cool, it should be. That's an underappreciated gem in the superpower world.
