Following the events of the last month, I've chosen to take up kendo to further my self-defense skills. Does anyone have any recommendations on good instructors in the city, or know anyone that I might be able to spar with?

Any leads are appreciated.

Jack Kelly Think you could let me know if you find anyone? I've been meaning to learn more about swordfighting since we got back.

Kaguya Pekoyama Yes. Mostly wooden swords, I believe, but my understanding is that it's very similar techniques to traditional swordplay.

Jack Kelly I'd offer to be a sparring partner, too,
but I'm brand new at this stuff, so I don't think I'll be all that good at it yet.

Kaguya Pekoyama That is all right. You shouldn't push yourself beyond your limits.
Kaguya Pekoyama I've studied alternate forms of martial arts before, which is why I figured I could learn by doing if necessary.

Jack Kelly Oh, yeah? Which ones?
Jack Kelly I'm new to this whole fighting-for-my-life thing, so I'm taking notes.
Jack Kelly But hey, I remember someone saying there was a training club going on. Maybe you could find a sparring partner there?

Kaguya Pekoyama Predominantly karate. My parents own a dojo, so I've been instructed in it from a young age.
Kaguya Pekoyama I don't think I've come across this training group before, but that is a good idea. I'll have to look into it.

Jack Kelly Ah, yeah, that's the way to do it.
Jack Kelly If I'm remembering right, I heard about it around the university. It was supposed to be some big secret, run by a guy named Dante here on the network, but Retrospec knew about it,
so it's not so secret anymore.
Jack Kelly I've never been, so I don't know what it's like, but it might be a good place to start looking.

Kaguya Pekoyama I wish I could say I was surprised. They seem to have a way of knowing these things.

Jack Kelly If you ask me, it's because they're all a bunch of stalkers. They must have cameras all over the city to be able to keep track of us even when we don't have our phones on us.

Kaguya Pekoyama It must be something like that, indeed.
Kaguya Pekoyama The question is how they manage to keep us from seeing those cameras, as I've yet to spot one.

Jack Kelly My guess would be they're using the hidden camera type you can stick anywhere and no one notices it. The problem is how they'd have set up a camera network without anyone noticing they were installing them.
Jack Kelly Then again, their network's been up since February,
so who knows how long they've been at this?

Kaguya Pekoyama I wonder if we'd have even noticed them installing it, if it was from before we had the app.

Jack Kelly Yeah, that's the other thing. Judging from everything else, we wouldn't have thought much of it at all. I've been wondering how they manage that.

Jack Kelly Huh. You know, I hadn’t even thought about brainwashing, but it makes sense. How else would everyone else conveniently forget about things like horses and colors?
Jack Kelly Or would we be the brainwashed ones, being part of their network?

Kaguya Pekoyama My guess is it'd be everyone else who's brainwashed.
Kaguya Pekoyama Only because it's a strange enough idea in itself that it's not a satisfactory answer for what we've been through.

Jack Kelly I can see what you mean, but none of the answers we’ve come up with for it have felt right just yet.
Jack Kelly I’ve seen computer simulations, reincarnation, stuff like that, and none of it really explains what’s going on.
Jack Kelly And if it is brainwashing, you have to wonder how they’re doing it to affect the whole city, except for us. What makes us so special?

Kaguya Pekoyama Oh, I didn't mean that the other explanation was satisfactory, either.
Kaguya Pekoyama There's still holes in that theory, not the least of which is as you said: how would such a feat be accomplished?
Kaguya Pekoyama I just think that if we assume something crazy is to blame for the discrepancy, it's most likely that the other crazy things occurring are real.

Jack Kelly No, I get it. It makes sense to take it as one whole package instead of piece by piece.
Jack Kelly Though that begs the question of whether these so-called memories are real if everything else is, too. Personally, I can’t bring myself to believe they are.

Kaguya Pekoyama I'm still not sure how I feel about them, to be quite honest.
Kaguya Pekoyama Regardless of whether or not they could be true, they feel real enough to be unsettling.

Jack Kelly Ain’t that the truth. All the ones I’ve gotten have left a bad taste in my mouth. Maybe we don’t have full context for them, but I don’t think I’d want it if it means more of that, you know?

Kaguya Pekoyama I think I'd like to have more context myself, but that's only because of how strange some of mine have been. My curiosity overrules my discomfort.

Jack Kelly I did hear some folks were getting some pretty out there memories.

Kaguya Pekoyama Mostly, they're about a vacation on a tropical island, I believe.
Kaguya Pekoyama I'd prefer not to talk about the strange ones yet... not until I understand them better.

Jack Kelly That doesn’t sound too bad, all own its own. I get it, though, sometimes there’s more to it than you think.
