[Exactly twelve minutes later Tatsuo pulls up and flips up the visor on his helmet]

Did someone call for a ride?

[there's a second helmet attached to the strap on the backseat, which Tatsuo unclips and holds out to May]

Damn, that's pretty nice~! -May whistled as she took the helmet, looking around the bike as she made her way behind. She tied her hair up into a makeshift bun first before slipping the helmet on. A little big, but... hey, beggars can't be choosers.-

Where do you want my hands back here?

Whatever you find most stable. Shoulders, waist, belt.

[Tatsuo glances over his shoulder to make sure she's settled properly]

Next stop, the beach!

Eh, waist it is. This way I can lean back. -May clasped her arms together around him, bouncing a bit in her seat. Okay, so she was excited, but could anyone really blame her?-

Alright. Hang on.

[Tatsuo revs the engine, then off they go!]

-May was by no means unused to high velocity movement or anything, but she still clung a bit more tightly to him once they started, muffling a small yelp. It had been years since she'd been on a bike... Once the initial nerves wore off, warm nostalgia seemed to seep in.-

[May is Tatsuo's first passenger, so he's pretty careful as he navigates the streets on the way to the beach. As they wait at a stoplight, he turns his head slightly to glance back at her.]

How you doing?

Yeah, just...

So the old man had a bike, a roadster, when I was little. That one had to get sold awhile back to pay some bills, but when I was tiny, he used to take me on rides all the time. Just got kinda reminded of that.

I think whenever he gets out of jail, I'm gonna get him a new one.

A roadster? That's kind of like a Harley, right?

[Despite everything, Tatsuo can't think badly of May's adoptive father. He cares about May and that's what matters most.]

I think that'd make a nice welcome home present.

Yeah, well, there's other stuff I gotta take care of first. Getting the Mayship back, for one.

-She'd been mostly coy with that bit of information with most of her friends, mostly because she knew them well enough to know they'd leap over fires to help her in a time of need, but she also knew she couldn't lie to Tatsuo as well as she could to others.-

Wait, something happened to the Mayship?

[sorry, May, he was kind of out of the city for a while and no one's told him about poor Mayship]

-May let out a long, forlorn sigh.-

Just keep drivin'. I'll show you.

[Oh, this sounds serious. Tatsuo nods.]

Alright. We'll be there soon.

[as the light turns green, they continue to the beach]

-By the time they got there, to the pier specifically, May gave him a squeeze that was a signal to stop, and no doubt already Tatsuo would notice the Mayship's absence. No sign of its name, or of the little dolphin that decorated its stern.

May pulled his attention just off the pier, into the water, pointing at a bit of debris. It was part of the Mayship's bow, sticking just less than a foot out of the water...-

Rest in pieces...

[It's hard to miss the absence of the Mayship. For a moment, he thought it had been stole, but when he sees where May is pointing, his heart sinks.]

Oh May... your poor ship.

I've already shed my tears over it. Right now I'm on the hustle to get it back. -She's conveniently not mentioning what it is she's doing about housing more money at the moment...-

If there's anything I can do to help, just let me know, okay?

[Just not going to ask what her hustle is. What he doesn't know, he can't turn her in for. Not that he's assuming she's doing something illegal. But he knows May's relationship with the law is not as tight as his.]

Emotional support helps most right now. I can do the rest of the heavy lifting from there.

... Don't go offering me any charity, either.

I wouldn't dream of it.

[He knows May is far too independent anyway.]

But emotional support I can definitely do.

You my boy, blue. -May gave him a grateful pat on the shoulder.-

I'll get through this... I always have.

[Tatsuo gives her a smile, though it's only visible in his eyes since the lower half of his helmet blocks the rest of his face.]

Yeah, I know you will. You're tough, May. Always have been, always will be.

Part of what makes me tough is the people that came up with me. You, Majima, Yin, I owe a lot to all of y'all.
