I came home to find this guy in my apartment. Anyone know anything about owls? It's acting like it knows me! Like, IT'S WAVING!

[Derek sighs at Tatsuo. He has a point. Still petting the owl, he looks at it and when he does the owl looks at him.]

Tatsuo would like to pet you. We don't get many owls around here so you're kind of a rare opportunity. May he pet you? He is a really close friend of mine, so he's a good person.

[The owl closes it's eyes ans softly hoots. Derek looks back at Tatsuo.]

That might be a yes.

[Tatsuo supposes that's about as much reassurance as he's going to get.]

Yes. Hi... I'm Tatsuo... nice to meet you Bronte.

[and Tatsuo steps forward, holding out his hand to gently pet the owl on his head]

[Bronte hold his head perfectly still.]

Oh wow, I think Bronte is letting you.

[Tatsuo strokes Bronte's feathers as gently as possible]

Why can't your demon cat be this well mannered?

[Derek shrugs.]

He's a special little snowflake.

More like an evil little snowflake. So, Bronte and Blaise.

[he gives Bronte one more stroke on the head, then retracts his hand]

Hah, now I can say I pet an owl

[Derek smiles as Bronte looks up at Tatsuo and hoots quietly.]

You know, out off all the things for Retrospec to do, this one I don't mind too much. At least he seems well behaved.

[Tatsuo glances back at the living room]

Blaise doesn't seem to like him though. Do you think that's going to be an issue?

[Derek suddenly gets a serious look.]

Man I hope not. I have not seen Blaise this angry in a long time.

Maybe he just needs a little time to adjust to having a new roommate.

[Derek snorts and Tatsuo's suggestion.]

Please, he has lived with my roommate for a year and they both still hate each other.

But that's between cat and human. This is between cat and owl...

[okay, there could definitely be a problem there]

But Bronte is so much bigger than Blaise.

Oh please, Blaise is the cat version of a chihuahua. He thinks he's bigger than he really is.

[Tatsuo laughs... because that actually makes sense]

Oh my god, you're right. Though at least Blaise has never tried to bite me, at least once I learned he doesn't want anyone but you touching him.

At least he mostly ignores you now. He still torments my roommate. My roommate... huh, I wonder what he will think about Bronte. He doesn't know he's here yet.

Yeah... it's one thing to bring a surprise kitten or puppy home, and another thing entirely to bring a full-grown owl home.

You never know right? Maybe he'll like Bronte since he seems much more well mannered than Blaise.

[Derek pauses for a moment then looks at Tatsuo.]

Do you know if the other you had any pets?

No idea. I've never even seen his place yet.

[Derek chuckles.]

Maybe the other you had a hamster, or some other fluffy rodent.

Why not? It could hide in your hair.

Did you just indirectly call my hair a rat's nest?

[Derek snickers.]

No, more of your hair is so fluffy the hamster would feel that it has found a fellow fluffy friend.

Anyway, would you like something to drink? Coffee? Tea?

[Tatsuo rolls his eyes and heads to Derek's kitchen]
