I'm not sure what this says about our time dealing with Retrospec, given that you could be entirely making that up and I would still be willing to believe it at this point.

Well, yes, all of this is rather unbelievable,
if there weren't so many of us experiencing it to make Retrospec's claims probable I wouldn't come to the same conclusions at all.

I don't think it was cats. All the creatures I have seen in my memories have been variable. Rabbits. Pigs. Butterflies. Falcons.

Some kind of composite species?

...I suppose? Though I can't say I've heard of something working in quite that way, I'd imagine it's possible given everything else that's been happening.

In fairness, it likely says more about my memories than yours that I find that infinitely more believable.

Unfortunately, we've opened a scenario with too many unknown variables. Either is entirely possible, or something else we haven't even considered.

"Irritating" is putting it gently. Although I'm not entirely sure why we bother trying to expect otherwise, or holding this to any sort of reasonably standard, given everything we've experienced so far.

Hope springing eternal, or something along those lines.

Retrospec knows. There is some kind of science to all of this, we simply haven't received the right pieces of information yet. I'll get my hands on them, eventually.
