Though I imagine that's hardly a satisfactory answer for you. What if I said I've had the notion clawing at my mind for sometime now?
[Not necessarily a tattoo, per se, that was just how this strange compulsion of his reared its ugly head. Rather he's referring to the fact that for some reason, the imagery has lingered with him for some time now, inexplicably so. Chalk it up to the strange dreams of a strange man.]
