most people seem to like both in general, but there's a preference for western dragons. There's a bit of a nostalgic childhood aspect with them

same! Even these sort of strange, "this is how the world was created" stories are nice if they're told in the right way

i think they're always interesting! it makes you think about what people used to find most important or mysterious, you know? like what they needed to explain, and how they were going to explain it!

it's not Japanese but I think my favorite example of that is how people explained fairy rings as being, well, related to fairies or witches, when instead it was just some fungus growing in a unique way

i don't really know a lot about fairy rings! why DO they grow in circles?

the fungus is underground, and it moves outward from the soil it pulls nutrients from

which means that the grass in that affected area dies and the grass growing above the fungus grows very lushly!
