I'll consider it festive. I match the leaves this time of year, anyway.

I'm not sure everyone else can be so easily convinced. Is it silly to worry about what others thing, at least in this case? I like to pretend I'm above being self-conscious...

if you feel self-conscious, all I can say is that it's natural and that nobody would think any less of you for it

after a month, the civilians will be used to the change and won't think it odd anymore, if that helps any
