Hello! You know, when I was a kid I always wanted to get horseback lessons? I never got those, but I did learn to code, so that's pretty cool. Anyway! We've been working on horses a little, although mostly it seems like we'll be pouring hours into taste, which seems to be a result of the outside destabilization?

Balancing spinning tops is always kind of a headache. I hope some of you found those loopholes! There's some of those bats in here, too, and I've been carrying things around to fend them off all week. Some people keep herding them into heavily populated areas in the building, though. What a pain!

As of this post taste tier 1 has been icly regained; it includes grains. Also as of this post, horses are now recognized in fictional books, games and movies. This is extended to merchandise as well such as the world-equivalent of My Little Pony.

Please feel free to use this post as a network mingle. Every toplevel can be considered a new post, and threadjacking is permitted. No NPC response will be given. Usernames are the character's full real AU names, not aliases or chosen nicknames or usernames, and seemed to have filled themselves in; nothing characters do can change or obscure their names currently.

Bread has taste again. I repeat, bread has taste again. Rejoice! We have scored our first victory in this war.

It's curious that she's having trouble with those bats, however. Presuming she means those mistletoe-composed pests, could that mean that the company truly is somewhere in this city after all? And I wonder what loopholes she speaks of...

I shall test other related food products for taste as I ponder this.

So they were actually able to fix something.

[ Interesting. ]

Two things, actually.

Yes, they've actually cleaned up a few of their messes in the past.

Which second thing are you speaking of, however?

[personal profile] dulynoted 2017-12-11 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
Horses. At least my understanding is they were completely missing from existence until just a short while ago.
falsepretentious: (judgemental)

[personal profile] falsepretentious 2017-12-11 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Correct. But they're not completely restored yet, hence that message. They're still for those most part replaced by those Chocobo creatures.
dulynoted: (pic#11877966)

[personal profile] dulynoted 2017-12-12 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
It's interesting that as they're "restoring" horses, these chocobos still exist.
falsepretentious: (serious consideration)

[personal profile] falsepretentious 2017-12-12 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
That is quite interesting. Either they'll remain until a later stage, or the two species will be forced to coexist. We won't know for sure until the horse restoration progresses.

I wonder if wiping a species from existence and memory could count as grounds for reckless endangering of animals.

Of course we can count on you to taste everything.

How did the lack of sense of taste affect your burger business, by the way?
falsepretentious: (too smug)

[personal profile] falsepretentious 2017-12-10 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
You speak of McDonalds? It's not doing so bad in these conditions. It's as if taste never existed, so we are still valued for having cheap food to eat. And now that bread is back? Well, sales of burgers and sandwiches may just find their way back on the rise!
hadeir: (pic#11640710)

[personal profile] hadeir 2017-12-10 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I doubt it. Why buy burgers if you're going to taste just bread? I'd rather have a muffin.
falsepretentious: (megane life)

[personal profile] falsepretentious 2017-12-11 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
That's a fair choice. We do have mcmuffins available as well. Still, people follow a herd mentality. They may assume that the other parts of the burger contribute to the taste of the bread.

Do you really belittle your customers this much?
falsepretentious: (judgemental)

[personal profile] falsepretentious 2017-12-12 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I value my customers' experiences. But I also cannot sugarcoat the general state of the teeming masses.

If bread does have taste again, I wonder if it's all grains?
falsepretentious: (laughing alone with salad)

[personal profile] falsepretentious 2017-12-11 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
I've been testing other grain-based products as we speak. And I can proudly say that you are correct!
blind_badass: (hmmm)

[personal profile] blind_badass 2017-12-13 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
So at least cookies might taste somewhat decent just in time for Christmas.
falsepretentious: (just one thought)

[personal profile] falsepretentious 2017-12-13 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, somewhat, without any dairy taste.
blind_badass: (hmmm)

[personal profile] blind_badass 2017-12-15 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
So not quite all the way there, since there's no sugar taste either. Well, I suppose some progress is better than none at all.
falsepretentious: (laughing alone with salad)

[personal profile] falsepretentious 2017-12-15 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
That's correct. Any progress is good progress, especially when it was obtained so quickly. At this rate, we may have more tastes back before we know it.

Our first victory in the war. The war of taste, perchance? Or are you speaking in more dramatic terms?

It is rather tragic to have lost such a sense as this right before the holidays, I will say. At least bread has returned, I suppose. I wonder what it is in the bread that's returned -- whether it's a grain sort of thing and pastas will have regained their flavors as well, or whether it's specific to baked goods. I do suppose you have the right idea in testing this out.
falsepretentious: (refined touch)

[personal profile] falsepretentious 2017-12-11 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Well met, Professor.

It is one of the worst possible timings - last month would be the absolute worst. We'll have to wait and see if any more of it returns in the near future. Normally the missing pieces of our reality don't come back so quickly, so this seems promising.

And you're right to hypothesize that. I can confirm that several other grain-based foods now have taste again. This victory has gotten even sweeter!
thole: (joking smile)

[personal profile] thole 2017-12-11 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh? What sorts of foods have we regained specifically then that you've noted so far? Does anyone have a list going?

I have just had my first cheese sandwich since it was taken away from us and I must say, even without being able to taste the cheese, it was quite good. Perhaps there is hope for us yet after all.
falsepretentious: (laughing alone with salad)

[personal profile] falsepretentious 2017-12-11 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
There's plain cereal, rice and pasta minus sauce to name a few. I haven't noticed any list yet, but should any be compiled, I can be sure to send it to you.

Good. There is indeed hope if we can still find pleasure in our food at a time like this!
thole: (listening neutral)

[personal profile] thole 2017-12-11 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, yes. So it sounds like the base to a lot of dishes will have flavor, but not the pieces that make their tastes really stand out.

No dairy products have recovered yet alas, so keeping it simple by merely adding butter or cheese does not do much to add to the difference either. Though I suppose one could always continue to experiment. You never know when the next tier of flavors might appear.

I wonder what it should be, however. If there is any rhyme or reason to it.
falsepretentious: (just one thought)

[personal profile] falsepretentious 2017-12-12 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
That sounds accurate. It's better than nothing, at the very least.

I know that I will be sampling different types of food on a semi-regular basis to check for tastes, or for memories of tastes. We have to keep pressing forward!

If you mean to the restoration of our senses, then the closest thing to logic they seem to be following are the results of polls that are sent out, to determine what they should focus on restoring foremost. A good many people must have missed taste dearly...
