Please feel free to use this post as a network mingle. Every toplevel can be considered a new post, and threadjacking is permitted. No NPC response will be given. Usernames are the character's full real AU names, not aliases or chosen nicknames or usernames, and seemed to have filled themselves in; nothing characters do can change or obscure their names currently. Characters who have been in game for one month will find they can now change their profile pictures; newcomers are locked into their first choice.

Upon opening this entry at all, characters will find themselves spammed with notifications and strange glitched texts until they make some sort of suggestion for a new application feature on the Retrospec app. This can range from a personalized friends list to a watermelon image gallery to a watergun charging station. It doesn't have to make sense or be useful - it just has to be a suggestion, at which point the application will return to normal.

This post is an overflow from the original post here. Feel free to either carry over threads from there or create entirely new ones.

Tim Drake It'll take some investigating.
Tim DrakeMaybe even the Retrospec building people have said popped up in Tisse.

Remind self of when this thread takes place

Hitori Togusa Last time I went there, I got locked in the lobby.
Hitori Togusa I'm planning on going back there, myself, but if you get stuck, the really annoying secret is that the door doesn't unlock until you do something with the Retrospec app from inside the building.

we with every thread

Tim Drake Weird. And a pain in the ass.
Tim Drake You got locked in? How did you get out? Specifically.

Hitori Togusa Specifically, the door shut behind me, I didn't even notice it was locked until my superior had the exact same idea as I did and got locked in.
Hitori Togusa We didn't notice any sort of magnetic lock, no light that changed, nothing at the top of the door frame, literally nothing out of the ordinary.
Hitori Togusa But as soon as a status was posted to Retrospec? The door clicked open, just like if someone had walked up with a card swipe. Very specifically, Wolf posted using my phone, we decided to try to test out how foolproof the user ID system was since we were going to be stuck in there for a while. By the time he posted, the app had figured out that it was him, and what he had typed posted under his own name.

Tim Drake So their app links with their building. It's a stretch, but could explain how offline working is possible. The app could tether phones to their own private network. Like a third party.

Hitori Togusa This, right here? Is the best theory that I've seen floating around here so far.
Hitori Togusa So how do we test it, with what limited access we have to the building?

Tim Drake Not sure if it's a great idea hashing illegal methods of information retrieval over their system.
standalonehuman: (TogusaDudeSeriously)

[personal profile] standalonehuman 2017-03-25 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Hitori Togusa Why is everybody jumping to the assumption of having to use illegal methods in conversations with me today?
Hitori Togusa In a totally legal hypothetical situation, then. A bunch of University students have set up their own private server that bypasses the University connection for P2P file trading. How would you find out?
rednerd: (that one person who always catches)

[personal profile] rednerd 2017-03-29 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Tim Drake It isn't a matter of legality necessarily. Why say you're going to shoplift from a store, then go in and tell them how you're going to do it before it happens?
Tim Drake Hypothetically: the P2P proxy bypass would still be using the uni's network for bandwidth.
Tim Drake In this case, we aren't trying to find a program. We're trying to find a hidden network. The Retrospec app is the access portal. We have the app, and they have the servers the app is running on. Like a wormhole. Kinda.

Hitori Togusa I retract my previous comment. That makes a lot more sense, and it's better thought-out than some of the would-be hackers bouncing around this site.
Hitori Togusa Is there any help that I can give for this process, then?

[Oh no. Oh NO, semi-high-level police clearance is talking to him face to face. BOY.

There's half an hour between responses as Tim (in the middle of class) thinks it over. And then Togusa will get a text.]
