Jim Halloway Research & Development Retrspec Incorporated As of this post all apples, oranges, lemons, and limes have been replaced in-universe as the silly dancing fruits shown above. This means that as with Chocobos all NPCs will insist this is how things have always been and history/movies/etc will back them up. In honor of St. Patrick's Day characters will find a request from Retrospec to upload a picture of themselves to the network in which they are wearing something green. They will find themselves shocked lightly by their device if they try to use it without complying. Rude? A non-triggered memory regain can be earned through participation in this post in honor of Lucy's birthday the holiday with proof of a single thread with at least five comments from your character. If you plan to redeem this, please submit it to our regains page with the explanation of "March freebie". This must be submitted before April to be valid! Regardless of whether or not a character earns the freebie, all characters will find a gold coin with the Retrospec logo on one side and a Chocobo on the other. On the outside edge of the coin they will find "Jim, put a meaningful quote here. - Janet" engraved in a beautiful font. The Chocobo will morph into a horse should your character obtain the memory regain from the event; it will stay a Chocobo if your character does not obtain the memory regain. Every toplevel can be considered a new post, and threadjacking is permitted. No NPC response will be given. Usernames are the character's full real AU names, not aliases or chosen nicknames or usernames, and seemed to have filled themselves in; nothing characters do can change or obscure their names currently.

I think nursery rhymes would be my first few attempts, just to see how they fare before building up to meatier works. Can you imagine them being able to recite something complex as the Carmina Burana collection? That'll be amazing!

I think you should do it. Though you'll have to tell them to look a bit more serious; their smiles are hardly suited to the dramatics of the Carmina Burana.

I would have argued that it was for the sake of juxtaposition, the smiling faces reciting sombre lines of contemplate and philosophy. Buuut I do like the challenging appeal of trying to make them appear serious. I'll keep that in mind!

Right now, they're simply having a party in the fridge here in the faculty room. How are yours faring, if there's any around?

Really? Take a picture, if you can, and send it to me for posterity. Because I would confidently say that the faculty room has never been more full of glee up until this very moment.

I'm not home yet, but I'm imagining a song and dance number happening in my fridge at home. What should I do? Just toss them out?

It seems rather cruel to simply toss them out.

Everyone else around us seems to be fine with what's happening. So I was thinking of maybe just donating the majority I own to charity or something, keep some for my personal project.

Is it cruel? They can sing, to be sure, but can they feel? And after ample time passes, will they rot, like fruit often does?

So many questions, Ainsley, so many mysteries to solve.

I mean we could do that to them but should we? The fruits are fruits, yes, but they respond to stimuli, they have enough thought to smile and move about. That's some measurement of life, isn't it?

Maybe it's my bleeding heart getting in the way. It'll explain why I can't finish this bottle of OJ now. I definitely agree that these are just mysteries piling on top of mysteries though. I thought solving the riddle of the horses would be difficult to solve but this proved me wrong big time.

A fair point. But plants respond to stimuli in their own way as well, and here we are, mowing our lawns on a frequent basis. Perhaps you're merely dissuaded because they have faces and expressions now.

Honestly? That's the exact reason why. You know me so well.

I don't know. I know it's kind of silly to be turned off by fruits now that they can apparently stare at you but. I can't bite into an apple that's just smiling and doing its own thing. Its worse crime ist hat it likes to groove to Queen and the Dukes.

[A part of this is hilarious, because Ardyn is on the other side of the argument in a different text conversation in this Retrospec post; however, it's a very lawyer thing to do, to argue for the sake of arguing. It amuses him, as there's obviously no clear answer this early on where the fruit is concerned.]

I imagine it's the reason for many to feel hesitation. Putting a human face on any object is enough to incite emotions that weren't present before.

So what will you do, then? Have someone else prepare your apples for you?

I was thinking of leaving the apples and the rest be, period, until I can gather courage to even think of eating them. I can still eat other fruits and vegetables long as they don't join the sudden sentience train!

For now, my plans to teach them the arts are my main focus with them. It'll be an interesting thing to do. Definitely going to make my Friday nights more exciting.
