What's up, users! We've mostly fixed the technical problems we were having earlier (unless Danny missed something again) but you might want to wear green. Also, I'm supposed to make a vague and mysterious informational post here but that sounded boring so I made a video presentation instead!

Cheers!

Retrspec Incorporated

As of this post all apples, oranges, lemons, and limes have been replaced in-universe as the silly dancing fruits shown above. This means that as with Chocobos all NPCs will insist this is how things have always been and history/movies/etc will back them up.

In honor of St. Patrick's Day characters will find a request from Retrospec to upload a picture of themselves to the network in which they are wearing something green. They will find themselves shocked lightly by their device if they try to use it without complying. Rude?

A non-triggered memory regain can be earned through participation in this post in honor of Lucy's birthday the holiday with proof of a single thread with at least five comments from your character. If you plan to redeem this, please submit it to our regains page with the explanation of "March freebie". This must be submitted before April to be valid! Regardless of whether or not a character earns the freebie, all characters will find a gold coin with the Retrospec logo on one side and a Chocobo on the other. On the outside edge of the coin they will find "Jim, put a meaningful quote here. - Janet" engraved in a beautiful font. The Chocobo will morph into a horse should your character obtain the memory regain from the event; it will stay a Chocobo if your character does not obtain the memory regain.

Please see our OOC information post HERE for some information and reminders - you can direct any questions about this post there!

Please feel free to use this post as a network mingle. Every toplevel can be considered a new post, and threadjacking is permitted. No NPC response will be given. Usernames are the character's full real AU names, not aliases or chosen nicknames or usernames, and seemed to have filled themselves in; nothing characters do can change or obscure their names currently.

It might be worth a try. I don't believe we can delete it, but perhaps refraining from using it might provide a control group.

Or finding someone who doesn't use it and lending them your phone.
chiseler: (and as you step back into line)

seeing how the app disappears on certain people you gotta admit that's even more suspicious
but we could start a mass-wide group of people that won't use it and see if they're still hit with the hallucinations and physical changes and stuff. wonder if it automatically downloads if you just get a new phone too

There's nothing about this that isn't suspicious. If Retrospec truly is intending to test something on a certain group of the population, i.e. us, then it would need to keep its parameters very strictly set. Like what you mention.
chiseler: (and turning all against the one)

[personal profile] chiseler 2017-03-23 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
so we need to do a little bit of critical thinking. maybe that'll help
if you wanted to run a group of test subjects through this kind of think what other parameters would you set up?
truedetective: (08)

[personal profile] truedetective 2017-03-24 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
That depends. What am I trying to test?

The power over memories?
chiseler: (what's worth forgiving?)

[personal profile] chiseler 2017-03-24 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
that also depends. would you count memories and physical manifestations as two different groups?
truedetective: (04)

[personal profile] truedetective 2017-03-24 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Not necessarily. But if you're referring to things like one's eye color changing, I don't think the latter needs to be even a consideration.

I think it can all be explained by some power over perception and memory.
chiseler: (man I never had a chance)

[personal profile] chiseler 2017-03-24 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
an actual power, or like mind over matter? those are two very, very different things
that and the first is apparently a real thing

[personal profile] truedetective 2017-03-24 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"Apparently a real thing"? Explain.
chiseler: (ask a reason and no reply)

[personal profile] chiseler 2017-03-24 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
okay maybe it's not a REAL thing, but I have a memory of it being a thing I've heard of before? like a fog or a magic of some kind that obscures what people really see and alters it to be whatever they wanna believe
sound familiar to what's going on here?

[personal profile] truedetective 2017-03-25 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
You remember a memory-altering fog?

I hope you do see why that's particularly hard to believe.
chiseler: (is an art that's hard to teach)

[personal profile] chiseler 2017-03-27 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
yes and yes, I know. I don't know how to explain it. I don't know how to explain the dragon either but that one I at least have a witness for
and anyway you say that like dancing fruit wouldn't be hard to believe before this
truedetective: (08)

[personal profile] truedetective 2017-03-28 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Your comparison to the fruit is not inaccurate, and I ordinarily wouldn't be entirely skeptical of some sort of odd mysterious fog...

...it's merely the idea of remembering something that by definition alters memories.
chiseler: (when the traffic's stuck)

[personal profile] chiseler 2017-03-28 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I wish I had a better explanation for what the thing was, but all I remember is that it veils everything from people who aren't meant to see it. I don't even have any examples, it's just like...one of those things you instinctively know is true. kind of like how you know the back of your hand
people around here have been remembering a handful of things that defy the very laws of memory anyway. that's what doesn't make sense
truedetective: (08)

[personal profile] truedetective 2017-03-29 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Veils everything from people who aren't meant to see it"... interesting.

Do you mean that it was used to conceal other things, or merely conceal its own existence?
chiseler: (get a second wind)

[personal profile] chiseler 2017-03-31 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
other things, I think. the concept itself wasn't well-known but I know about it. it's like...the difference between seeing a dog and, I don't know, a goat? two totally different things that you could look at and be like "that is definitely a goat and not a dog" but somebody else would be like "no you're insane that's a dog"
think about the arguments we've had with people about horses versus chocobos
truedetective: (04)

[personal profile] truedetective 2017-04-01 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
So rather, it was something that could affect people's perception of a given object, place, or situation?

I see.
chiseler: (I curse this caveat)

[personal profile] chiseler 2017-04-02 07:49 am (UTC)(link)
exactly. but there were still people who could see through it
pretty sure it was called mist. dunno why, just a feeling that sounds right
if I figure out more about how it works I'll let you know somehow
truedetective: (08)

[personal profile] truedetective 2017-04-04 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
It couldn't hurt.

No offense, I remain dubious about many of these memories. But false or not, they may help us understand the nature of what's going on.
chiseler: (and no one even knew)

[personal profile] chiseler 2017-04-05 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty skeptical about half of my memories I'm getting too but there's too many of them split between us to think it's entirely coincidental anymore
hopefully we'll figure something out soon enough
good luck

Thank you. You as well.
