What's up, users! We've mostly fixed the technical problems we were having earlier (unless Danny missed something again) but you might want to wear green. Also, I'm supposed to make a vague and mysterious informational post here but that sounded boring so I made a video presentation instead!

Cheers!

As of this post all apples, oranges, lemons, and limes have been replaced in-universe as the silly dancing fruits shown above. This means that as with Chocobos all NPCs will insist this is how things have always been and history/movies/etc will back them up.

In honor of St. Patrick's Day characters will find a request from Retrospec to upload a picture of themselves to the network in which they are wearing something green. They will find themselves shocked lightly by their device if they try to use it without complying. Rude?

A non-triggered memory regain can be earned through participation in this post in honor of Lucy's birthday the holiday with proof of a single thread with at least five comments from your character. If you plan to redeem this, please submit it to our regains page with the explanation of "March freebie". This must be submitted before April to be valid! Regardless of whether or not a character earns the freebie, all characters will find a gold coin with the Retrospec logo on one side and a Chocobo on the other. On the outside edge of the coin they will find "Jim, put a meaningful quote here. - Janet" engraved in a beautiful font. The Chocobo will morph into a horse should your character obtain the memory regain from the event; it will stay a Chocobo if your character does not obtain the memory regain.

Please see our OOC information post HERE for some information and reminders - you can direct any questions about this post there!

Please feel free to use this post as a network mingle. Every toplevel can be considered a new post, and threadjacking is permitted. No NPC response will be given. Usernames are the character's full real AU names, not aliases or chosen nicknames or usernames, and seemed to have filled themselves in; nothing characters do can change or obscure their names currently.

Hitori Togusa We've got a name. Two names, really. No sign of them on the site, but they have to exist somewhere.
Hitori Togusa You can't make a company or put up a building in isolation. There has to be more paperwork on these people.

James Barnes So, what, now we just hack into some federal database and find their addresses?
standalonehuman: (TogusaDudeSeriously)

[personal profile] standalonehuman 2017-03-25 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Hitori Togusa Or...you could check out the completely legal and free to the public records at the courthouse and city hall or the Bureau of Public Records... This is easy.
Hitori Togusa Maybe this is my fault, let me start this conversation over again. Hi, Officer Hitori Togusa, RPD.
frostythehitman: (i fear is never ending)

[ Oh god. It's a cop. It's a cop and he just suggested hacking into a government database. To a cop. ]

James Barnes Sir, I swear what I said earlier was just a hypothetical and I have zero plans to hack into any database, or do anything else that is in any way illegal.

[Togusa is trying so hard not to laugh on his end. It's enough to make the kid sweat a little, so he doesn't need to push it.]

Hitori Togusa No you're not, more because my actual point is that it's too much work. Likely not necessary. Information that we're searching for on the company is probably right out there in a place that nobody's thought to look yet.
Hitori Togusa Construction permits and zoning ordinances and change of address forms aren't glamorous but they can tell you a lot of information. And they're completely legal.

[ Well that sounds like a lot of legalese and a lot of reading and lots of boredom. Sooooooo he's probably not gonna do it, lbr ]

James Barnes And are you planning on reading through all those things?
standalonehuman: (TogusaHunh)

[personal profile] standalonehuman 2017-03-26 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Hitori Togusa I am. I just need to decide what angle to start from. I'm leaning towards the deliveries that have been made to some people. Sometimes you can shortcut an investigation by getting the Postal Bureau involved simply because they have a shorter backlog.
frostythehitman: (my walls are closing in)

[personal profile] frostythehitman 2017-03-26 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[ It's almost like...this guy has a plan that makes sense??? Wow. Truly, the police know what they are doing. ]

James Barnes Oh, yeah. The mailmen had to deliver all those weird things, figures they'd know something.
James Barnes So...the police are gonna singlehandedly investigate Retrospec and figure it all out?

Hitori Togusa At this point, we can't stop other people from looking into the company. There are people who have other ideas on how to get information on them.
Hitori Togusa So to answer your question, we'll be investigating, but not to the exclusion of anybody else at this time.
Hitori Togusa But I still advise not jumping straight to resource-intensive illegal hacking when there are easier ways to gather information.

[personal profile] frostythehitman 2017-03-27 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
James Barnes Well yeah if there's actual public records of this stuff then what's the point in doing all that hacking?
James Barnes I just didn't know it was publicly available. I thought that was all secret paperwork and stuff.
standalonehuman: (TogusaPonder2)

[personal profile] standalonehuman 2017-03-27 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Hitori Togusa At least what we need to get started should be publicly available.
Hitori Togusa And sometimes if the information isn't there, it can be more telling. Something really mundane, like, okay, let's go back to the packages idea.
Hitori Togusa If something so simple like tracking information on packages isn't available? Then the post office would probably like to know that, too. Lack of information can still tell you something.
frostythehitman: (i really need to give these some good ke)

[personal profile] frostythehitman 2017-03-31 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
[ Huh. He would never have thought to approach it that way. ]

James Barnes So, what, is this like a crash course in police detective work?
James Barnes Are you an RPD detective?
standalonehuman: (TogusaSigh)

[personal profile] standalonehuman 2017-03-31 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh, the deep sigh that is happening on the other side of the screen. It still kind of hurts every time somebody jumps to that assumption.]

Hitori Togusa No, just a regular beat cop. I've been involved in investigations before, though.
