Hello everyone,

I've got a question for everyone. This is something I've been thinking about for a few weeks now, and I'd like to get your opinions on it, as well as possibly some advice.

I know a lot of us have been having those wild hallucinomemories lately, and whoever came up with that word is brilliant. And I know a lot of us have been struggling with them because some of them are outright terrifying. What I want to know is if you saw someone that you knew in your hallucinomemories doing something that scared you, or made you afraid, would that affect how you view them here in Recolle? Is this who they were, who they are, or who they will be again, basically. I know that's a pretty weird question, but I'm not really sure how I feel and it got pretty real for me recently.

Any thoughts are appreciated, seriously.

Cheers,

Pen.

Goro Majima I think the way a person tries to be matters.
Goro Majima Right now, in the present. Regardless of what they did before or what they'll do again.
Goro Majima If someone is trying to do right, even for a little while? That's important.

Goro Majima Maybe it could.
Goro Majima But how can you fault someone for something they're trying not to be?
Goro Majima How would you feel if someone held you accountable for something they "remembered" about you?

You're welcome. We thought it was a pretty great portmanteau.

It doesn't seem reasonable to insist that no one be affected by their hallucinomemories in terms of how they imagine others or even themselves.
The experiences are as vivid as a flashback and probably just as capable of throwing a mindset back.
Flip it turnways, though, and that person doesn't necessarily bear the same responsibility for their actions in the hallucinomemory as would the person they were in the thing.
They're undeniably connected to that person, but they're also their own unique iteration and are coming from different experiences and choices.
They're connected, likely overlapping, but they aren't the same.

"Pretty weird question" or not, it's something I've been considering myself lately as well.

Personally, the most I've been able to decide is that it's certainly who we were, if it's truly connected at all. I've had such a sense of mental disconnect from the things I've been supposedly "remembering" that the only conclusion I can draw is that it's our choices now that ought to matter and be considered relevant.

doesnt matter what they were like or are like- if someone tries to scare you, just punch them in the throat

[personal profile] buncho 2017-06-24 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
im short too but you just have to jump for it! or bring them to the ground first and then punch them

but yeah dont think about it. deal with stuff as it comes, its easier

i will put a motherfucker in a sleeper hold to keep them from gettin themselves 86's, i dont even give a fuck, a slightly bruised friend is better than a dead one.

I think it depends. I've remembered things about who I used to be, some of it is pretty cool and some of it isn't.
I don't just want to emulate the bad stuff.
But if I remembered someone I know doing something bad, I would talk to them about it.

That must have been scary. I can understand taking some time to think about it.
Personally, I doubt who they are now is the same person as who they were then.
Whatever they did in a past life or alternate universe... they don't have to make the same mistakes again.

If you're worried this person might hurt you, you can always bring a third party with you when you go talk to them. That might help.

Sounds intense. But if the memories feel real, then maybe it was real for you. Or the you that lived it. It's hard to say.
But some antagonists don't stay that way. I mean I guess it depends on the kind of story it is, but...
