Don't bother the techs.

Seriously, don't. I'm not entirely sure what's going on but all I'm getting is that it's the equivalent of being hacked and someone who knows layer theory better than we do is out there screwing things up and tampering with the project.

I don't have a really good update for you guys, but bear with us. Please?

I don't know. If you believe that, then I'll use "you". But I don't think Nyu and Lucy are the same.

[A pause, and then an attempt at levity:]

Though I did call you two Lunyu in my head for a bit when I was talking with her, when I was confused about what was going on.

[Now it was time to look up, albeit with a confused blink. Several of them.]

You...did?

[Lucy wasn't so glum when she was busy being surprised, at least. What an...odd thing.

But it seemed like something Minako would do, too. Something much more understandable than...whatever had happened to Lucy.]

Yeah.

[She squeezes Lucy's hand.]

Silly, huh? But I don't think it suits either of you.

...I guess not.

[A little of an understatement. Lucy thought it was a bit undignified, and Nyu was...well, she didn't have an opinion right now.

Belatedly, Lucy squeezes her hand back. That was something she could do, even if she couldn't make sense of much else.]

I don't have anything else to tell you.

[Besides other things and unrelated events babbled in Minako's direction while Lucy was busy not letting go of her roommate.]

That's fine.

[She's silent as she mulls this over, eventually letting out a soft hum.]

We'll get to the bottom of this eventually. Maybe we can go back to where you stopped remembering as Lucy, and see what we can find.

[Lucy blinked, protesting immediately. Her hand squeezed a bit tighter around Minako's.]

Are you sure? What if it happens to you?

[She wanted to know what happened, but not at the price of losing Minako again.]

Mmm, there is always that possibility, huh...but! We just have to avoid that lady that you talked to, right? She was the one that probably changed you.

[A small smile.]

And even if I forgot again, I wouldn't stop being your friend, you know.

I know you will. [That assertion was almost as automatic, with no hesitations. It even startled Lucy a bit.]

Just...

[Realizing how tightly she was holding onto Minako, Lucy eased her grip. But her fingers were still possessively curled over the other girl's hand. Her expression wasn't distant, frustrated, or sad, but a worried frown.]

Yeah. I know. [She smiles wryly.] It's scary to think about it actually happening again. But take it from me...what if situations will just drive you crazy. Let's take one day at a time.

[About letting those what-ifs pile up...

Lucy sighed, shoulders losing some of their tension. She didn't know if she could just...let go of things like that. Stop worrying about things like that.

She could apologize, though. She should.]

...sorry, for dumping all this on you. Again.

[Thinking about these conversations after they happened always made Lucy feel guilty. Minako always seemed like she had so much to worry about, and here Lucy was adding to it. Again.]

[Minako gives her a small smile and pats her hand. She is, admittedly, a little exhausted by the idea that something is wrong again. Something is always wrong, and for once it would be nice if things were alright instead. But it concerns the safety and happiness of a friend, and so she can't ignore it.]

Don't be. I'm glad you told me.

[It was a small relief, hearing that. It didn't make that lingering backlog of negative thoughts and guilt go away--it'd had far too many years of a head start--but, for the moment, it seemed just a little more manageable.

Lucy tried to dredge up some of that infectious positivity that came so easily to Minako. It was difficult, and her voice wavered more than she liked.]

You wanted to make that soup, right?

[She appreciates the effort. Minako breathes out to steady herself and then nods.]

Yeah. Still got a lot of prep work to do before we can eat. Let's get back to it.
