You put your clothes in, then some detergent, select the load size, and then press the start button.
I personally do my shirts and such in one load, and then my pants in one, and my underwear in another with some bleach.

Nothing near the washing machine itself? That's the place that would make the most sense...

Looking in the kitchen or laundry room might be the best.
Yeah I learned how to use it this year. The easiest detergent to use is the ones that look like little pods. You can just pop that in without trying to measure it, but there are a couple of videos that shows you how to use it too.

If you still find it confusing then I can come over and walk you through it. It isn't too difficult but I understand how it can appear daunting when you aren't used it. That was certainly how I felt when I began living on my own.
