Posting from this network, you'd probably assume I got my job back. Hey users. For those of you who're new, my name is Zee. Sorry to say it, but you've been pulled into the Retrospec project now. Not sure what that is? Get someone else to explain it to you, there're plenty of people who've been around for way longer than deserved.

So…you'd probably assume I got my job back, and I kind of did. I kind of did, but there's a funny little thing about Retrospec and memories. Let me tell you a brief story.

Once upon a time, there were the four founders who came to this planet, founded the city of Recollé and started the Retrospec project. Yeah. Another planet. They're technically aliens, I might technically be an alien, some of YOU might be aliens, it's hard to say. So anyway you have the four founders: Spinnato, Cavendish, Mahoney and Vanderweele. These four created an ideal project to protect life on other planets, offer inhabitants a safe haven to recover from tragic events of their world that were being destroyed (as planets are wont to do) and "regrow" the place you once called home. The problem is that the four of them weren't entirely in agreement on what sort of people should be "worthy" of being saved, or who should be able to become part of the Retrospec project to preserve their souls and recreate what was lost. Souls are a tricky thing. I should know, given I think mine was floating around in the endless abyss for a few months while my body regenerated.

There was such a controversy amongst the founders that one of them, Vanderweele, ended up wiping out an entire family line. There are relatives left from the Spinnato family. Cavendish and Mahoney decided to spearhead the project themselves and sentenced Vanderweele to life in solitary confinement. Once that happened, they began changing how the project was one. They hired some of their own family members. They changed and became the "new" Retrospec.

Vanderweele's not dead though. And as a master of illusion, you can guess where this story is going. I'm not going to do this vague and hiding bullshit that the company's fond of: Vanderweele is out there and meddling with the affairs of this city to overthrow and regain control of the project. All of these weird storms that are happening, the things that mess with your soul? That's Vanderweele's work.

So why am I telling you this?

…Vanderweele got to Retrospec. A lot of you asked if Retrospec knew I was alive again and at the time I didn't know if they did or not, so when I got back to this layer (thank you, by the way. All of you.), I went to headquarters. Everyone inside doesn't even seem to remember that they were working on the project. I don't know WHAT he did, but their memories…everything's scrambled. The entire tech department resigned and I'm not sure if Maurice thinks he's working in a normal mailroom or what. They're almost on the same layer that you guys are before you wake up. Or that's how it seems anyway.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it looks like it's just you and me.

We need to start moving and putting a stop to this to fix everything. I'm not saying you have to. If you want to sit this one out, fine, but I have a feeling most of you want to do something about this. Bring people back to themselves. That kind of thing. You're all pretty stubborn from what I've noticed and that's the good thing.

There are some things I need to check. I'm learning how everything works here and I'm trying to understand all of their notes, not to mention I need to retrieve a few things and wait for a field agent but you'll hear from me soon. I have an idea, but these things take time.

Stick together. Talk to each other. Keep focused.

Oh. I guess also I should mention I moved offices? I'll be staying at headquarters for a while but my remote office is easier to access. Head to the public library, you should be set to get past the scanners on the back of the building and the door will appear for you. I'll be reachable by text, too.

Good luck. Be in touch soon.

Killed kids. I suspect to try to manipulate company politics.

Or he got the maid/nanny to do it...something like that.

I got a file with some Retrospec history and info I could send over if you want it.

[Your kinda too calm for this Al what the hell.]

...I would appreciate that, though I don't think there's anything in there that will justify murdering children in any meaningful way.

Here

And it doesn't, just history, common "welcome to retrospec" info. Power plays are seldom justified, killing their kids though can be effective.

I hate him still but he did get results.

I don't understand what results could possibly be worth it, in the end. Perhaps it's for the best that I don't.

They never are.

They just do it for power, prevent a future rival or to hurt a dissenter to make them do something stupid, so they can be crushed.

It's a whole stupid system.

Theoretically, I suppose. It just seems repulsive to me. Whether for one's beliefs or one's cause, there has to be a line somewhere, and that's further back than I can really conceive of comfortably.

I agree, mudering a rival that directly threatens you is one thing.

Maybe there is a cause worthy of it, or maybe they just want to hold to power that bad, maybe they are just peachy at the job. I can understand that.

But kids? People, that have nothing to do with it?

No.

I dislike it, but I do agree with you. Murdering a consenting party is one thing, and by engaging you in such a way, consent is inherently offered.

But involving unrelated parties is abhorrent.

(sigh) Kinda like machvelli, he is right, but I don't exactly like his world view.

The view that all means can be used if necessary to maintain one's self-interest - I don't know if I'd agree with it myself, but I know many certainly do.

Oh I meant the guy had a point and he bascially shows how to do just that perfectly.

I just don't like him, even if he would get the job done.

I've seen first hand his kind of thinking taken to it's extreme, it was horrible.

I believe it. I've been fortunate enough to have never seen it on my own, and I haven't remembered anything from my alleged preincarnation. So I don't know if he has, either.

Well your still new, give it time. You might get bad memories yet.

and that's good you haven't seen it yourself. It's a horrible mess.

I really can't imagine my memories being anything of importance, but maybe they'll prove me wrong.

If you have magic memories help you understand them.

Or if you have skills the memories help you see what limits those skills have.

Plus I love them, of another land, another place.

Even if there is nightmare fuel every now and then.

[personal profile] armati 2019-02-02 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
Would you go there if you could? The place in your memories.

[personal profile] flametheif40 2019-02-02 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
I've been to Balbadd actually.

December, we got teleported to a location of our memories.

Balbadd is a very beautiful coastal city, I loved the sea air and if there were people there, the market place would be bursting with scents of food, people trying to catch your eye with wares.

Thing is though, there is a bad king in charge, and I needed to lead the thieves and people to revolt.

I mean Alibaba did, pronouns kinda get screwy.
armati: (31.)

[personal profile] armati 2019-02-02 07:25 am (UTC)(link)
It's good to know that the city is a nice one, at least, even if there's difficulties there now.

Hopefully the world I end up seeing is a good one. I've heard so much talk of terrible places, and of terrible things being done to people; I'm not sure how I'd feel about it if my own world were to be like that.
flametheif40: http://magiicons.tumblr.com/ (Default)

[personal profile] flametheif40 2019-02-02 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
I hope the revolt went well for them. The people were starving. Apparently, I was a prince of low birth, ran away and came back with magic to confront my brother.

I hope so too, there is so many screwed up terrible things in the world, and I want to try to see the bright side of things in the midst of it all.

[personal profile] armati 2019-02-02 08:00 am (UTC)(link)
It's a good way to live. One that can cause its share of disappointments, to be sure, but... I think it may be worth it to keep up hope, at least.
flametheif40: http://magiicons.tumblr.com/ (Default)

[personal profile] flametheif40 2019-02-02 08:08 am (UTC)(link)
Well, try is the key word.

Hope needs to be measured, can't just go wild with it. But I do agree overall though, doesn't hurt to have small bits of hope.
armati: (39.)

[personal profile] armati 2019-02-02 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
Some people tend to have an overabundance of it, it's true. Though I suppose it takes strength to carry on like that in its own right, assuming that it's genuine hope and not foolishness.
flametheif40: http://magiicons.tumblr.com/ (Default)

[personal profile] flametheif40 2019-02-02 08:19 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose so, even if they get hurt they keep hoping.

I'm not built like that, already been crushed enough thank you very much.
armati: (18.)

[personal profile] armati 2019-02-02 08:20 am (UTC)(link)
For what it's worth, I couldn't live like that either.

I don't think many people are.
