So here's the thing…

We have a lot of work left to do. Those of you who ventured down below got a taste of what we're looking at and hopefully that means we can make better preparations. I'm working on opening a new portal based on your energy readings and getting it to stabilize itself so you aren't stuck down there longer than you have to be. May take a few days, but I'm hoping to get a map drawn up, too.

How many of you have been out to Magatus? You might wanna compare notes…the influence started spreading even further. It's better to bring everything and everyone out there back to the city where we can put up forcefields and I can monitor from here.

So what am I saying? I need two teams, a rescue team and an exploration team. Take some time to decide, figure out your skills, organize and arm yourselves. Assignments will go out when you're ready, and when I'm ready.

It seems a bit silly to try to decide everything before we get up there... Exploration does sound fun though, doesn't it?

Of course it won't actually be fun, because nothing in Magatus ever is, but maybe it'll be a little less terrible than I'm assuming.

I guess some of us have skills that will lend themselves more to one task or the other. I think mine would better serve trying to dig up anything useful on whatever Vanderweele might be doing out there.

Please can it be less terrible than the last time I went up there? Is that too much to ask?

My skills have always been better suited for combat, so I suppose I could work in either group? I imagine both will run into trouble.

It really would be nice if things would go well for us for once! I'm not going to get my hopes up, though.

Yeah, I expect so. Trouble seems to find us wherever we go.

So expect the worst, prepare for the worst, and when things end up being terrible, at least we're prepared.

Precisely. That's really the most we can do at this point, I think!

We've been through quite a few terrible things, so I'm sure we'll make it through this and live to complain about it next month!

It sounds like we're setting the bar really low like that. 'I don't expect much! Just to live to complain about this!'

Oh trust me, I absolutely am. If the bar's already set so low, then most of the time it'll be easy enough to step over it! I don't have nearly enough trust to think that things will actually go well.

Still, kind of unsettling that just... surviving something is setting the bar low for us.

Agreed... After the jungle temple, I can't really take surviving for granted anymore... Even with the abilities I've gained I doubt I'd have a much easier time going through that again!

Nothing like being trapped underground to really put things in perspective.

I keep telling myself I'm not going to put myself in another dangerous position, but I keep doing it. Even though I have no fancy abilities/tech/weapons, I keep doing it. What does that say about me Jaeger?

I think it could say one of two things. Maybe it's that you want to help, despite the risk it poses to yourself. If you find yourself doing it to protect others, or even just to help them, then that could be it.

The other option is that you do it for adventure. If you're not exactly satisfied with where your life is right now, or maybe if your past life went on a lot of similar dangerous adventures, then maybe it's that that drives you.

Of course, those are just the answers I've come to for myself, so it could be something entirely different!

Hmmmm I can't really say I'm one for adventure, in either of my lives. But protecting/helping others, yeah, that's pretty consistent. That is why I went into the profession I did.

And my past life did take a bullet for someone. So. Yeah.

Try not to repeat that one in this life!

I do think it's nice that you want to help others, and being unable to turn away even from dangerous situations is a good thing! I can understand how it's frustrating to keep winding up in situations like that, but I think it's good that you're so willing to help.

I suppose that's true. I guess I just don't like sitting by if I can find some way of helping.

And believe me, I have absolutely no intention of copying him in that regard.

I'm glad to hear it! I think it's good of you to keep helping, but do try to mind your limits as well!

I'm trying. Really. But it's hard when we don't always know what we're walking into.
