So here's the thing…

We have a lot of work left to do. Those of you who ventured down below got a taste of what we're looking at and hopefully that means we can make better preparations. I'm working on opening a new portal based on your energy readings and getting it to stabilize itself so you aren't stuck down there longer than you have to be. May take a few days, but I'm hoping to get a map drawn up, too.

How many of you have been out to Magatus? You might wanna compare notes…the influence started spreading even further. It's better to bring everything and everyone out there back to the city where we can put up forcefields and I can monitor from here.

So what am I saying? I need two teams, a rescue team and an exploration team. Take some time to decide, figure out your skills, organize and arm yourselves. Assignments will go out when you're ready, and when I'm ready.

You told me last month vanderwheel can mess with our heads and then I remembered Occulmency. It's a type of magic to block out people reading your mind and messing with your memories... i think.

To perform Occlumency, a person has to rid their mind of all thoughts and emotions (blank and calm). With a quiet mind, a person could then repel the Legilimency attack (the opposite of Occlumency) by disarming, shielding or hexing their opponent.
Apparently my other self was an accomplished Occulmense, he had enough self-control to withstand Legilimency attacks without the need for disarming or hexes. He could compartmentalize his feelings and shut down his minds at a moment’s notice. He also had to deny "essential parts of himself." (at least... that's how it came to me? Not sure exactly what that last part means...)

Feels like we're getting further away from what Vanderweele's doing. There's no way someone as fucked up as him knows how to be calm or have self-control, and the brain that started leeching my memories definitely wasn't and didn't.

Good to know, though. Maybe now you won't get as fucked up down there.

Of course he wouldn't be calm of have self-control. I think you misunderstood. I think...

Occulmency is what my other self could do. Legilimency is what Occulmency fights against. Legilimency is the magical probing of someone's mind (thoughts and memories). Vanderweele, from what you describe, does something similar to Legilimency.

Well, cool. I haven't been calm in a fucking decade, so I'll just have to deal with it, I guess.

Even if you could do my type of magic, you still might not be able to. It's apparently a special branch of magic and very difficult.

[That being said, Derek isn't sure if even HE will be able to do it. Draco was much more... lack of emotion compared to him. And Derek knows he had to suppress integral parts of himself. Could he do that? Derek doesn't know.]
