Welcome to Retrospec™, the last social media network you will ever need. You are one of the few selected to test this exciting new platform based on our cutting-edge algorithms. Less than two hundred invitations have gone out, and membership is not currently open to the public. However, we hope you will come to see how useful Retrospec™ is, given time. We have for your use a variety of features such as text, voice, video, and image posts. We encourage you to explore our many options.

Anyway, now that the copypaste part is out of the way! Jim here, requesting you guys make your secret meetings a little more exciting. It's not like you're not trying with the whole "let's meet off the network!" dealio, but I have some serious concerns. For one thing, no secret handshakes or phrases? Not even dramatic meeting locations? The trying rating is about half a star if that. And I'm almost bored to tears with the whole back and forth about what's going on. Not bored enough to give you a cheat sheet, but still. I can't get myself taken off surveillance duty, so at least try to make it a little more exciting!

You guys might like this wikihow. Later!

Please feel free to use this post as a network mingle. Every toplevel can be considered a new post, and threadjacking is permitted. No NPC response will be given. Usernames are the character's full real AU names, not aliases or chosen nicknames or usernames, and seemed to have filled themselves in; nothing characters do can change or obscure their names currently. Characters who have been in game for more than one month will find they can change their profile pictures; newcomers are locked into their first choice.

At various points throughout the day users will be sent images of themselves from behind, regardless of where they are. There doesn't seem to be any way to catch whoever might be taking and sending these, however, especially since being alone in a room doesn't seem to be a deterrent.

Who are you and what sort of secret meetings are you referring to?

[And later, once he receives an photo of himself at the convenience store:]

I see that in addition to sending suspicious apps, you're stalking me. Don't think I won't report this. [Holy shit, this is too much creepy for one day.]

I believe Officer Togusa is posting to this message. You can try to speak to him, but he's already aware of most of the things we report. They're trying, but it's hard to catch these people.

Your icon looks familiar, though. Have we met perhaps?

I will speak to him then. Thank you. How long as this been going on?

I believe so. Didn't we meet at the park a few days ago?
[Just in case he's wrong, he doesn't mention the fruit for now.]

Since Founder's Day this year, though if you just got this app, you likely never noticed until then. The confusion tends to be pretty strong when people first show up here.

Yes, I think so. Your friend had turned into a beetle. I do hope they turned back.

He did. The fruit is still smiling at me.

Has Jim been sending these sorts of messages to you since January? Why hasn't this been brought up in the news?

I eat papayas, bananas and grapes these days. I can't bring myself to eat apples much anymore, for obvious reasons. I am glad your friend is normal again, though. That worried me a little, when I saw a giant preying mantis.

It varies. And I don't think it appears on the news because they have not given the app to any journalists? Only people with the app notice anything wrong, and the mayor is in complete denial.

What about sending screenshots? This message is a blatant threat against our privacy.

Believe me. They have done several things I am certain are illegal, but no judge is on the app. They have no reason to believe the police if we brought them to trial.

And nobody has seen this Jim in person ever.

But why not? Even if they don't believe us about dogs and fruit, anyone can see this app.

I doubt Jim would dare to show his face if he doesn't want to get put on trial.

we've tested. The app will be mysteriously missing if anyone looks at your phone who isn't on it, and back again afterwards. If you got a new telephone number and phone it would already be on it.

It is not a normal app, trust me.

What?

Is it facial recognition software? Is Jim monitoring us at all times?

What does Retrospec want from us?
true_noir: (Excuse me?)

[personal profile] true_noir 2017-05-02 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
I just received a very invasive photo of my derierre, so I am going to say 'yes, he is.' Except that there is nobody here. And I don't own nearly that expensive a phone.

We do not know, though he seems to be very bored.

Either it's hidden cameras or there are more bizarre things happening in this city besides the insects and fruit.

I'm not certain which one I prefer.

I think we're well past what real technology should be able to do. It has to be something stranger or more bizarre. There is no explanation that is normal I can accept.
