Welcome to Retrospec™, the last social media network you will ever need. You are one of the few selected to test this exciting new platform based on our cutting-edge algorithms. Less than two hundred invitations have gone out, and membership is not currently open to the public. However, we hope you will come to see how useful Retrospec™ is, given time. We have for your use a variety of features such as text, voice, video, and image posts. We encourage you to explore our many options.

Please feel free to use this post as a network mingle. Every toplevel can be considered a new post, and threadjacking is permitted. No NPC response will be given. As a reminder, everything besides uploading a profile picture and information was locked until this post. Usernames are the character's full real AU names, not aliases or chosen nicknames or usernames, and seemed to have filled themselves in; nothing characters do can change or obscure their names currently. Oddly, profile pictures still cannot be swapped out at this time, so hopefully you took a good one.

It sure is. You used it first, though.

I'm not near my computer right now. Why do you ask?

I used it sarcastically. This whole thing is moronic.

No big reason. I'm just really hoping that Retrospec isn't spyware or about to wreck my harddrive and my phone in the name of a "test" I never signed up for.

( amoung other things, affording replacements right now is... stretching finances. maybe he's just imagining what he's seeing? there is no retrospec on his laptop. nope, that's just a suspiciously, unfortunately familiar icon, and...

... ugh.
)

What do you think it could be, if not spyware?

Does calling it a nuisance count as an answer?
viktorymaker: (♧ 02)

[personal profile] viktorymaker 2017-02-01 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
Not really. But if there's an answer that makes more sense, I haven't seen it yet.

And people are saying a lot of things.

All in public. On the app in question.

( ... DAMMIT and he throws his phone in frustration at this realisation )

Yes. It's that kind of app.

BTW, I just checked on an old phone I hadn't touched in months and it has it too. I'm writing from there now! Didn't have to log in either. ☠️ 👽 👻

i'm irritated

OK. Maybe we'll get answers if we wait, but whatever this is about, it doesn't seem very legal. I wouldn't count on it. Have you tried looking into this company?
catsudon: (glare | no)

[personal profile] catsudon 2017-02-02 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
( he at least pauses for long enough to tap out a reply using Punctuation, because that clearly means he's More Than Okay. )

Vitya, I did internet searches. Like anyone with at least one finger and internet access can do. Didn't turn up anything more than the fact they technically exist. I don't exactly spend my time doing shit like this.
viktorymaker: (◎ 09)

[personal profile] viktorymaker 2017-02-02 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Clearly. ]

Wow! So they exist. This phone won't load anything but this app right now because I disabled my internet access, so I couldn't check
catsudon: (huh | what the f--)

[personal profile] catsudon 2017-02-03 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
( this response is delayed because he inevitably chucked his phone again while shouting something that didn't have words, even in his own head. so a few minutes later, he turns off his wifi and turns on safety mode.

... sure enough. there's the app. he stares at his screen before typing back a reply.
)

The future is randomly selected to be creepy and make us the focal point for some weird new company running a social experiment?

Where's the opt out.

[personal profile] catsudon 2017-02-03 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
For invasion of privacy? Doesn't that only work if we have evidence we can show?

Wait, can we take screenshots of the app? Even if it goes missing, if those files aren't pulled too, we can make our own paper trail or whatever, right?

[personal profile] viktorymaker 2017-02-03 08:57 am (UTC)(link)
It's worth trying. Then again, everything we say here is probably being monitored...

[personal profile] catsudon 2017-02-03 09:07 am (UTC)(link)
Say it isn't so.

( what a strange, foreign concept for them. truly. even if Yuri had spent most his formative years growing up in the United States as opposed to Russia. )

[personal profile] viktorymaker 2017-02-03 09:58 am (UTC)(link)
[ very strange!! well tbh if this were a gag comic he'd be ready to say hi to the potential retrospec onlookers with a sparkling heart emoji but. it's not. so we get "probably"s. read between the lines and think of what you're saying in public, yura!

or not
]

Haha well, being read by others is more or less the point of social media
catsudon: (pout | or close enough to it)

[personal profile] catsudon 2017-02-03 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
( hey, Yuri's started putting things off retrospec! ... granted, not everything, but he's sixteen, give him a little room for improvement. in a gag comic he'd be staring offscreen by now... as it is, he's staring down at his phone screen. )

Yeah, but usually you get to set your own privacy settings and choose who you're following instead of having your social media account decide to stalk you
