Welcome to Retrospec™, the last social media network you will ever need. You are one of the few selected to test this exciting new platform based on our cutting-edge algorithms. Less than two hundred invitations have gone out, and membership is not currently open to the public. However, we hope you will come to see how useful Retrospec™ is, given time. We have for your use a variety of features such as text, voice, video, and image posts. We encourage you to explore our many options.

Please feel free to use this post as a network mingle. Every toplevel can be considered a new post, and threadjacking is permitted. No NPC response will be given. As a reminder, everything besides uploading a profile picture and information was locked until this post. Usernames are the character's full real AU names, not aliases or chosen nicknames or usernames, and seemed to have filled themselves in; nothing characters do can change or obscure their names currently. Oddly, profile pictures still cannot be swapped out at this time, so hopefully you took a good one.

[ Ignore my ugly typo last post. But, Liz is definitely better company that Mister Lawyer. ]

They once thought we'd be living in the clouds by now, miss. The furthest we got is a self-installing app. A shame, I'd say.

[ I mean, better than trying to escape a horrible cloud city?? ]

I noticed the plethora of notifications in unison during one of my classes and it hasn't stopped. It has neat features - a few of them combined with other common ones, but... wonder what the parameters were for these 'testing'.

I would find solace amongst the clouds. The constant pull of reality becomes too great at times.

[Forever the poet; Gentiana has an odd way with words.]

They're probably trying to test the limits of our curiosity. I find myself drawn to glimpse at my phone whenever I hear the faint chime.

To be honest, it's simple.

You have an entire generation with access to the numbing influence of dopamine through social media and smartphones. The previous generation had an abundance of chemicals to abuse and substances to rely on. Not saying they don't NOW...

Dopamine is released into the brain once you receive a notification - it causes you to want, desire, seek out, and search. Dopamine starts you seeking, then you get rewarded for the seeking which makes you seek more. It's a loop, albeit a sad one.

Our reliance on social media is likened to that of narcotics and alcohol? Quite a bold claim but one that I find very true.

It almost sounds if mortals are starved for happiness and take it wherever they can find it.
