Welcome to Retrospec™, the last social media network you will ever need. You are one of the few selected to test this exciting new platform based on our cutting-edge algorithms. Less than two hundred invitations have gone out, and membership is not currently open to the public. However, we hope you will come to see how useful Retrospec™ is, given time. We have for your use a variety of features such as text, voice, video, and image posts. We encourage you to explore our many options.

Please feel free to use this post as a network mingle. Every toplevel can be considered a new post, and threadjacking is permitted. No NPC response will be given. As a reminder, everything besides uploading a profile picture and information was locked until this post. Usernames are the character's full real AU names, not aliases or chosen nicknames or usernames, and seemed to have filled themselves in; nothing characters do can change or obscure their names currently. Oddly, profile pictures still cannot be swapped out at this time, so hopefully you took a good one.

No. If I do, that's another summer's worth of part-time work to replace it, and it'll end up filled with useless programs anyway.

Exactly. No one is going to do what they should, and so say goodbye to privacy. Or your soul. Or both. No matter, as long as we can share photos and status updates with each other.

[If he sounds critical, it's not like he's throwing his phone away either.]
momentaryspring: (Ryoga: why you...)

My soul is firmly ensconced in my body, thank you!

What is a status update? Is that the one that's 25 characters?

[personal profile] daemonized 2017-02-01 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
Are you sure about that? We can have a philosophical discussion about it if you like.

You've never posted a status update?

Urgh, spare me. I have enough to worry about, and I already had to talk to some chat bot going on about the Unknown.

I mostly use my phone to contact my family and CLOSE friends. It's not like I always get reception anyway.

The Unknown? With a capital "U"? It must be legitimate.

Family and close friends aren't allergic to status updates, you know. There's a hole in your reasoning. And what's wrong with your reception?
momentaryspring: (Ryoga: did senpai notice me)

[personal profile] momentaryspring 2017-02-01 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
The hole in my reasoning is that you still haven't told me what a status update is! How am I supposed to make one?!

I just do a lot of walking, that's all. There are dead spots.

It's exactly as it sounds. Yes, the bit with the character limit. You, imagine this, update your current status with it.

Are you a hiker? Do you trek through underground tunnels? Do you just prefer to wander through dead zones? Regardless, it sounds very inconvenient.

[personal profile] momentaryspring 2017-02-01 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
That sounds silly. Why not just call someone up and tell them?

And the first two. It's not so bad. People used to live without cell phones.

It's faster this way. Garners more attention with the least amount of effort.

Indeed so. But that's hardly the case now, is it?
momentaryspring: (Ryoga: did senpai notice me)

[personal profile] momentaryspring 2017-02-01 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
If you really wanted to get attention, there's always standing in the middle of the shopping district and yelling.
daemonized: (43)

[personal profile] daemonized 2017-02-01 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
So you're saying I should yell about my status updates in the middle of a crowded shopping center?
daemonized: (17)

[personal profile] daemonized 2017-02-01 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Do me a favor? Try it for me. Tell me of the results.
momentaryspring: (Ryoga: stare)

[personal profile] momentaryspring 2017-02-01 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually have shouted things in a shopping center, though I can't say that they were status updates.

But in any case, of course not. I only said yes because it would be funny.
daemonized: (45)

[personal profile] daemonized 2017-02-01 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
And I'm asking you to do so for the same reason. Isn't that novel?

[personal profile] momentaryspring 2017-02-01 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Since I've already done the first part, I might as well tell you now:

They're surprised at first, but after that people don't really care.
daemonized: (01)

[personal profile] daemonized 2017-02-01 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Then what's the point? People figuratively yell on social media so that they can garner responses. Likes. All sorts of shallow attentions to feed the ego.
momentaryspring: (Ryoga: sigh)

[personal profile] momentaryspring 2017-02-02 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
I think there is still room for using it for more normal things.
daemonized: (21)

[personal profile] daemonized 2017-02-02 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Of course. But that's hardly what garners the spotlight.

Take a look around this app, for example. You'll see what I mean.
momentaryspring: (Ryoga: mysterious)

[personal profile] momentaryspring 2017-02-02 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
I see a lot of people complaining about this app.

A LOT.
daemonized: (38)

[personal profile] daemonized 2017-02-02 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
And yet indulging themselves in the inanity of it, all the same.
momentaryspring: (Ryoga: ?)

[personal profile] momentaryspring 2017-02-02 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you all right?
