hello, everyone! :)
as many of us are aware, the senior class at recolle high school will be graduating soon, and well....
i am part of that class!
i guess because of this fact, i have been thinking that it is maybe time for me to be a bit more independent than i have been, and find a job
this is pretty easy in theory but i find that there is a problem that is maybe not much of a problem to some people but it has been giving me something to think about lol
namely, i do not know what to expect and how difficult getting my first job will be :o
if you have advice, i would definitely like to hear it!!!!
on the other hand, i would like to know what your first job was like, as a blanket sort of thing
ummm, so i guess to make this more concise, i have a few questions!
what was your first job?
what was getting it like?
would you recommend it to someone looking for a first job?
thank you all in advance <3

It wasn't that terrifying. Mikoto's family was always very nice, and I gave them my resume. And, I certainly would say it is a nice place to work. I don't know if Mikoto is hiring right now, though.
Really, though, I hear getting a job is pretty easy for someone in high school, especially part time work.
no subject
i would imagine that dave would have told me if they were looking to hire right now
im glad it was a good experience, i hope i can find a boss as nice as mikoto apparently is
at least, i never hear anything bad about enchanted blossoms!!!!
jeez
is it really?????
i dont even know what id put on my resume

There's just kind of an understanding that you work for the university when you enter grad school
That said if you're looking for something like a retail job I recommend a local store
You here all kinds of horror stories about big chains
Except Starbucks apparently they're great
no subject
i think its respectable work but im not sure how id break into it
a retail job is pretty doable!!!!!!
i like being around people
lol though i could never work at starbucks, i am pretty bad at putting things together like that
no subject
It's a ton of hard work, and none of it is really any fun.
But if you're looking for a good job
It's really about who you know.
no subject
i dont think its overrated in the least
eventually everyone becomes independent in their own way, and im sure theres a lot of fun to be had once youve made your own way!
i was kind of hoping it would be more based on my skills, though i admit i dont even know what id put on my resume
i help out at the shelter but its not really a job, is it?

It was pretty easy and kind of fun and the hours were flexible.
And they didn't care that I'd never worked before.
Could be worth a look?
no subject
did you end up smelling like popcorn butter???
i will look into something like that, it does not seem boring at least!

It was awful. Don't do it.
Then it was Freshens. It was slightly less awful but still don't do it.
And my current hell is less shitty than all of the above.

thanks, karkat!

i work in the arcade in tisse
uh
the smaller one with the dumber name
it could be worse
truth be told i hate the kind of people we get in usually but
the pay's good and the person who runs it is decent
youre mostly breaking cash for coins selling junk food and making sure noone vandalises anything so it can be slow
no subject
do people vandalize things often there??? ive never seen it!
i would have never though people do something like that
of course, bathroom stalls are one thing but... actual equipment??? does that happen????

I don't know if I can help because I've kind of always worked at my mom's bistro... ah, but now I have a part-time job at the library! I think they liked that I was really interested the section I work in? So I guess I would say, if you can't find something in the field you're really interested in, try looking for something you could at least have fun with. I think they can tell when someone is sincere and when they just want a job, you know?
no subject
thanks so much
you are too kind!
working in a bistro sounds sooooo fancy, lol, i could never hope to do something that fancy
hmm
i think you are right about that
when you are interested in something, it can be very obvious
something that is a passion, that can be seen :o
all of this advice is telling me that i should look into the planetarium, though

the interview process was very easy for me since I'd done a lot of volunteering up until that point too, so there were a lot of things about myself I could talk about as reasons why they should hire me even though I hadn't done a ton of baking before the job. For example: I'm a people person which would make me good at customer service, I'm a fast learner, good at organization, and an efficient worker, etc etc
I don't know if I would recommend it to you since we're not really in need of employees right now, but what I can say is that when you apply to any job, keep in mind those types of 'soft' skills that any job would need! You're ten times as likely to be hired if you mention that you're eager for experience and ready to take initiative (like you have here, asking questions!) compared to a guy who just wants the job for extra money
sorry for the text wall haha but tl;dr think about the strengths you have as a person and sell yourself to your potential employer with confidence!
no subject
this is a very new experience for me, so i am not very sure where to take it and having input is helpful
i have also done some babysitting before, my littlest neighbor is a little bit of a handful but they are a good kid :o
i suppose that is some experience i can write down, i wonder if the families would be ok with being references of some kind! i will have to ask
in any case, this is all pretty reasonable, and i think i can say many of those things are true for me
although...
i did not realize asking questions like this was taking initiative!!!!
it seems very basic to me
maybe that is because i am a hard worker though :p
(no subject)
no subject
Pretty easy. I went in, filled out the application, they called me back, I talked to the guy for a while, and he gave me the job.
It's not a bad gig, but you do need a car or something to help you get around fast.
no subject
do you get free pizza and breadsticks???
(no subject)
no subject
i can teach you the zen art of tossing dough and cheating pac-man
no subject
when you put it that way, i may have to seriously consider that
i do not believe i will be able to do delivery but if they are every looking for more pizza pushers, i suppose learning to cook is a sort of science as well!

I don't know if I'd recommend it if you're not looking for a paying job, or if you're not looking to get into the medical field, though.
But wow. You've reminded me that I'm graduating this year. It seemed so much further away before....
no subject
or at least an interest in it :p
which is not to say that i think that it is a bad career path but...
i dont have a desire to go into the medical field!
its a little surreal to think about
but i suppose i will be a fulltime college student soon
so many options next school year!

2) it was easy i just saw the help wanted poster went in and applied
3) probably i would since we got to eat free samples and that was the best job perk ever
