I'm not entirely sure what's going on but all I'm getting is that it's the equivalent of being hacked and someone who knows layer theory better than we do is out there screwing things up and tampering with the project. So when we went to Pesgare the first time, there was a gentleman who was trying to fiscally take over the town. He’d been there for a while, and instinct says he’s backed. Money.

He was talking about “the four original regions.”

I feel like there's a pretty big stretch between 'business tycoon buying up the town' and 'mysterious organization hacking the universe.'

Unless it’s ‘tycoon was the face of people trying to hack reality.’ If they needed control of Pesgare, it was a good try to get the area under control without arousing suspicion.

Dante said something about people who know more than they should popping up in each area.

we haven't seen actual evidence of anything and i think that is maybe why everyone is so mad.

Their enemies.
We've seen at least some evidence retrospec exists, at least.
From their building before it vanished, and that train station.

And while I'll admit they've been getting better recently, I can't say they've done enough to make me simply believe a sudden talk of mystery antagonists.

at this point i doubt they're even being honest. it's not as if i had any stellar faith in the shadowy cabal of retrospec to begin with, but come on. isn't it so convenient that they're fighting the good fight for us now, when they've spent so long keeping us in the dark?

I imagine they'd say that they had been doing it the whole time and weren't telling us for our own good.
Though that is just as empty a statement as what they are saying so.

every month is the same.
blanket "sorry, you thought your life would be normal again for .005 seconds, gotcha. but we're working on it! promise lol" statement.
something horrible happens.
we fix it via a series of annoying and sometimes potentially deadly task.
"we've got things figured out but here's a new reality bender for you folks at home!"
they might as well keep their mouths shut for all the good it does. we help one another more than they ever bother to do as is.

Well, not in the city at least...
Alike to Pesgare, in Respartum, we were tasked with finding a traitor in their midst.
He sought to bring the world to an entire union by way of bending space and time with an ultimate weapon, though all would've really done is destroy what we're aware of now, I think.
That might count under the same sphere.

Only of an unfinished replica that was ordered by someone imprisoned.

[He'll send them over; it's the beginnings of a long stick, two thick branches winding around one another with a hollow meant for a large stone and metal encasements around the sides. There's a metal statuette of a wolf nearby as well.]

We found peculiar statuettes along with it (a wolf, a fish, a rabbit, and later on a bear) as well as gems that were more or less magic.
