Per the mod plotting post, you may use this post to obtain one of this month's freebies! This month's freebie can be earned by turning in a thread on this post that has 10 or more consecutive comments from you.

Please feel free to use this post as a network mingle. Every toplevel can be considered a new post, and threadjacking is permitted. No NPC response will be given. Alphas, Betas, and Epsilons will notice that network posts will continue to be tagged without names attached but rather their newly issued IDs. OOCly, IDs are comprised of their title, the date they showed up on the app, and the digits on your character's inbox post. So for example, the Recollé NPC who was on the app would have an ID of Beta#0201188329. While user pictures can be displayed, Retrospec users will also experience broken pixels on occasion that obscure the face of whoever they're speaking to. (i.e. we will allow for players to play with an anonymous option if they wish.)

People actually choose Recollé as a vacation destination when they have options like Hawaii or Tokyo or Paris or Luxor?

[ yeah, not cairo. cairo is lame, says the guy who's never been - ]

Why? You got family here or something?
cutefaced: you can't judge, you're over here condoning murder (so what if i'm attracted to older guys?)

[personal profile] cutefaced 2018-10-02 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
i know someone who lives here and my father thought it was a good idea so i dont get up to any weird things on my own

jokes on him! everything here is weird
hauhra: (otherwise we'd get along)

[personal profile] hauhra 2018-10-02 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I see.

In other words, you didn't exactly have a choice in the matter. Otherwise, you would have picked somewhere else.

But if you can't even be trusted with a decision as important as that, then should your father really be sending you off to cities he's apparently never set foot in himself just because you happen to know someone who lives there...? You might as well stay home at that rate.

[ i mean bakhura can't be trusted alone anywhere either but you bet he wants to lord it over her anyway ]
cutefaced: was when we agreed we both liked pizza (our one and only civil conversation)

I don't see why I should have to sugarcoat it for you... I'm just a curious stranger, not your parents.
cutefaced: so that i don't slow down to say it on my way to get the fire extinguisher (i'm saying "i told you so" now)

[personal profile] cutefaced 2018-10-02 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
if you arent my parent dont question my fathers parenting decisions maybe

anyway this place didnt seem so bad when i read about it online but the websites didnt say anything about all this weird app stuff

is this normal for america or just for this city
hauhra: (all i gotta do is jump)

That's because for whatever reason, only those of us who are actually on the network are aware of it, and of the strange goings-on associated with it. Those who aren't on the network, on the other hand, can't see any of these posts even if they're reading directly over your shoulder and wouldn't believe you if you told them. For them, it's out of sight and out of mind... it's not really known why that is, but it's always been that way. Get used to it... in this city, people who aren't very nice are going to be the least of your worries regardless of where you're from.
cutefaced: i am not qualified to be the responsible adult here (don't put me in that position)

If it were, then it would have been gone from most of our phones a long time ago.

But apparently it's impossible to remove even for the smartest of hackers. Unless something happens to the Retrospec organization itself, it's here to stay, and it's beginning to sound more and more like that's the last thing we want to happen.
cutefaced: so they can attempt to fully understand the complexities of my existence (i plan to donate my brain to science)

[personal profile] cutefaced 2018-10-03 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
people cant see the app but do they know about the company?

maybe we can leave them a bunch of bad reviews on yelp and theyll stop making money and have to shut down
hauhra: (gotta eat to live)

[personal profile] hauhra 2018-10-03 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
If money was their objective, then our overall dissatisfaction with their service would have shut them down long ago/

Yet here we are, almost two years after their social network debuted, if I'm recalling correctly, and, they're somehow still going strong.

even if money isnt their objective how are they paying for all this weird stuff?

there has to be something we can do

It was only a few weeks ago that one of us was able to actually do something to someone inside of the company, and even then, the user's identity and the way they did it is still a mystery... but it apparently has something to do with an item they got back from their previous life.
cutefaced: saying "love you i miss you"? (wait you really sent a text to yourself)

[personal profile] cutefaced 2018-10-03 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
thats really vague and i dont understand

say it a little more plainly please

A few weeks ago, a Retrospec employee was found dead. The suspect is believed to be a Retrospec user, and the murder weapon is thought to be something the user got back from Retrospec... there's a pretty big post about it if you're willing to scroll through a few days' worth of posts.

[ congrats yona you walked in on a murder mystery ]
cutefaced: i asked what was wrong and their exact words were "just a tiny explosion; it'll be all right" (there were firefighters up the street)

[personal profile] cutefaced 2018-10-03 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
?????????

the police havent caught them yet??? the person who did it could be one of the people talking on here???
hauhra: (and that's everything) (show some respect down on one knee)

[personal profile] hauhra 2018-10-03 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Any police officer that wasn't on the network was gone from the city last month because of a virus that hit the city, and the ones that were on the network were only three in number. It sounds like those policemen did arrest and convict someone, but apparently the evidence is still lacking and the real culprit could still be at large... they couldn't have picked a more perfect time to make a move to strike back at Retrospec.

This is the sort of thing I mean when I say someone like me is going to be the least of your worries here.

Until they start going after other Retrospec users, then no, not really. Right now, they only seem to be interested in criminals and people who seem to be close to identifying who they are... and since I'm neither of those things, my concerns can afford to be elsewhere for the time being - like the "infectant" mentioned in this post.
