Safe mode is now offline. Please be aware the infectant is still live.

Manual debugging required.

Per the mod plotting post, you may use this post to obtain one of this month's freebies! This month's freebie can be earned by turning in a thread on this post that has 10 or more consecutive comments from you.

Please feel free to use this post as a network mingle. Every toplevel can be considered a new post, and threadjacking is permitted. No NPC response will be given. Alphas, Betas, and Epsilons will notice that network posts will continue to be tagged without names attached but rather their newly issued IDs. OOCly, IDs are comprised of their title, the date they showed up on the app, and the digits on your character's inbox post. So for example, the Recollé NPC who was on the app would have an ID of Beta#0201188329. While user pictures can be displayed, Retrospec users will also experience broken pixels on occasion that obscure the face of whoever they're speaking to. (i.e. we will allow for players to play with an anonymous option if they wish.)

Amarande is a pretty middle name.

Do you really think you can stop what the infectant is?

Dankeschön. Annalise used it more than me.

I don't know, but I can try. Like I told your brother, I've got a point A and a point B. I'll figure out the road while I'm walking it.

[ Brother....

Clover is leaving that alone. ]

It's pretty with both Anna and Annalise.

It's better to try than to not, but at the same time, trying without knowing anything can lead you astray. It's possible to take a wrong turn, multiple wrong turns.

I'm not heading out there totally blind, yeah? I'm out in the woods more lately, just thinking through the clues we have and trying to make connections.

But thanks for being worried.

What connections are you making?

Not a lot about this yet. Mostly I try to figure things out about A2.

The one I can't figure out is why the amusement park last month was run by a fake Retrospec.
servileness: (0.20 sec)

[personal profile] servileness 2018-10-07 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Do you have a better image of A2, or is it still the same?

My theory is that it was a partial but successful attack by Clarence Vanderweele and/or his supporters. I don't have a solid reason for why or how, but that's the theory that makes the most sense to me at the moment.
hauntedsavior: (met your stare with blank expression)

[personal profile] hauntedsavior 2018-10-07 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
I have a few more pieces of the puzzle, but I'm still working on how much I trust them since they came from the knockoff.

Obviously it was Clarence. The "how" is probably because we were all in some big computer simulation. The "why" is what I can't pin down. Did he think we wouldn't notice something weird about the logo of the company that's been running our lives?

Do you dislike your other self that much? Annalise, I mean.

Those two months when some of us were different.... those of us who are still different after those two months... How much of that was Retrospec? How much of that was Clarence Vanderweele? If he can successfully hijack the system, with a more seamless copy, who's to say what we would or wouldn't notice?

Perhaps that was their alpha test.
hauntedsavior: (the voice of sympathy)

[personal profile] hauntedsavior 2018-10-08 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
All right, well, that's fucking terrifying, but it's as likely a possibility as anything else.

I don't hate Annalise. She was just really self-serving, I guess? Didn't care about things until they were a problem for her personally. And if that's the way other people want to live, go for it, but that's definitely not the way I live. And nobody with my name should ever act like that.

[personal profile] servileness 2018-10-09 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
I was told I had a strong imagination when I was younger. We don't really have any evidence to rule it out.

Was she really that self-serving? She expressed enough care even though we knew each other less than you and I do. I'm not saying you two are the same because you're not. Circumstances change so much.
hauntedsavior: (omnipresent endless knot)

[personal profile] hauntedsavior 2018-10-09 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
She only changed when something happened to make her more like me. That's the way I remember it, at least. But it's not important. She's not here anymore.

I'll take all the theories we can get, no matter how scary. At least one of them is bound to be right.

[personal profile] servileness 2018-10-13 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
It's who you could have been, if your circumstances were different. I'll leave it there.

It's better to find more likely theories than list every one possible. Efficiency serves to save headaches.
hauntedsavior: (a panacea for the poison)

[personal profile] hauntedsavior 2018-10-13 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Glad they aren't.

Wanted to say something sarcastic here, but "push the limits so you can see how far until they push back" is basically what everyone like him thinks like. That alpha test theory really isn't too far off, huh? Shit.
servileness: (0.20 sec)

[personal profile] servileness 2018-10-14 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Wait. What do you mean by the alpha test theory?
hauntedsavior: (the solution is wrong)

[personal profile] hauntedsavior 2018-10-14 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
The thing you said about someone maybe hacking the system just to see if they could. It fits with the MO of people who want to get away with worse and worse shit because anyone who cares is powerless to stop them.

[ celene I'M DUMB not clover ]

Right. It's reprehensible. People shouldn't be toyed with like this.

You've had to witness a version of yourself you'd rather not be like, and I...

You know what happened.

[personal profile] hauntedsavior 2018-10-14 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
[YOURE WONDERFUL SHHHH i do it all the time]

Yeah.

When you put it like that, I almost sound like an asshole.
servileness: (0.20 sec)

[personal profile] servileness 2018-10-14 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
That wasn't my intention.

I meant, if their attempt to hijack the system is what led us to experience those two months, it... it's terrible. I didn't mean to make it seem like you were insensitive.

[ For once, she didn't actually mean to be passive-aggressive. Amazing. ]
hauntedsavior: (analyze your apathy)

[personal profile] hauntedsavior 2018-10-14 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
It's fine, I'm kind of an asshole already anyway.

All of it's terrible. This whole time I was worried about turning into a robot and having someone else control me, and they can just do that when I'm still mostly human, which is cool. All the more reason to stop him before he gets any bolder.
servileness: (0.03 sec)

[personal profile] servileness 2018-10-14 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
There are many crueler than you.

From that report from Tatsuo Kihara and Derek Matthews, it seems he's already bold enough. He'll do whatever he wants, dead or alive.
hauntedsavior: (spare me your obsolete empathy)

[personal profile] hauntedsavior 2018-10-14 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep. So you can see where I'm coming from a little better when I'm putting everything I have into getting rid of him for good.

Even if he weren't changing everything around us (or not, because who knows what he's doing, really), he still thinks he gets to decide who lives and who dies. He still thinks that he knows which people deserve to survive. And if he has followers, you know they all think they're on that list, but somebody like him only cares about himself. He'll kill them in a second as soon as he gets what he wants. That's how genocidal maniacs always work.

Sorry. Kind of a hot button with me.
servileness: (0.21 sec)

[personal profile] servileness 2018-10-14 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I understand. I know someone like him doesn't have a heart and wouldn't hesitate to kill anyone who he thinks is in his way or is against him.

But we need a direction. How do we find him or his supporters when we can't even do that with Retrospec?
hauntedsavior: (met your stare with blank expression)

[personal profile] hauntedsavior 2018-10-24 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
People like him are easy to find. They think they're untouchable because they have power.

I'll figure it out.
