LOADING...

Welcome back, users. Looks like we were able to bring you back online and tracked again...here's hoping the layers are settled now, but the readings are off the chart. We're doing our best to stabilize the city for December while we track some of the magical sources we're picking up. It may take us some time though, so please bear with us!

We may be working through the holidays, too, if this keeps up. But it's okay. You opened the doors and new routes for us to check.

Stay positive, users. December is a special time of the year. What's your favorite holiday tradition? You'd be surprised how thoughts shape things here.

Please take care.

[....]

Oh.

That sounds like a really bad use of a school's budget, no offense.

I'd have to agree. What ever is in the chamber has has the ability to petrify people and kill them. So going off the assumption my other self is from the 90's... sometime in the 40's the chamber was opened and the "horror" killed a student. Fifty years later, when my other self was 12, the chamber was opened again. Don't know if someone died yet.... not enough context.

That's terrible....

Is it some kind of magical creature? I know medusas petrify, don't they?

Why would you put that in a school??

Well, I have no idea if it is a magical creature, and I doubt it is someone from greek mythology in there.

But the reason I think dates back to when the school was still new:

Hogwarts was built over 1000 years ago by by the four greatest witches and wizards of the age. The four school houses (dorms) are named after them: Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin. They build the Hogwarts castle together, far from prying Muggle eyes, since it was an age when magic was feared by common people.

For a few years, the founders worked in harmony together, seeking out youngsters who showed signs of magic and bringing them to the castle to be educated. But then disagreements sprang up between them. A rift began to grow between Slytherin and the others. Slytherin wanted to be more selective about the students being submitted to Hogwarts. He believed magical learning should be kept within all-magic families. He disliked taking students from muggle parentage, believing them to be untrustworthy. After a while there was a serious argument on the subject between Slytherin and Gryffindor, and Slytherin left the school.

There is a legend that Slytherin had built a hidden chamber in the castle, of which the other founders knew nothing. Slytherin, according to legend, sealed the Chamber of Secrets so that none would be able to open it until his own true heir arrived at the school. The heir alone would be able to unseal the Chamber of Secrets, unleash the horror within, and use it to purge the school of all who were unworthy to study magic.

It's a pretty grim story to be honest.

[A pause as he reads this]

Okay first of all, that's pretty messed up of that Slytherin guy.

But hearing that story, it sounds a LOT like what happened with the founders of retrospec.

Ah, you think this too? It seemed freakishly similar. Like how the four founding families have animals assigned to them, the same with Hogwarts. Each house has an animal. Albeit, no one killed someone's children, but there are many similarities.
fiddlestick: (ohhh noooo)

[personal profile] fiddlestick 2018-12-24 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I mean, he sorta did...by leaving that horror in that room. If someone died from it, then that'd be on him, wouldn't it?

But yeah...weird how some history repeats.

Well, the student died... 50 years ago from the memory. And the school is hundreds of years old. So it wasn't Slytherin that actually unleashed the horror. It would be his heir? But yeah, either way, crazy guy. But in defense of Slytherin House (the dorm named after him whom I belong) not all people of that house are that nuts.
fiddlestick: (run save yourselves its too late for me)

[personal profile] fiddlestick 2018-12-27 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
[...?]

I didn't say it was the house's fault? Of course I wouldn't judge an entire class of students on him. But the guy named Slytherin put the horror in there to kill people, so it was his fault. And...whoever the "heir" was.

Oh... well then that's good. The Slytherin House seems to have a bad reputation because many evil wizards have come from it... so... yeah...

[A pause]

Well, I don't know about you, but I don't judge people on their past lives. I think it's this life that truly matters.

Believe me, I've known people with past lives a lot shadier than was part of a questionable class.
blondferret: (i got you)

[Ah... Derek knew he always like Elliot!]

Keep that mentality. There should me more people like you. Don't change.
fiddlestick: (youre dumb af)

Aha, I'll do what I can! I don't plan on changing that part of me, anyway.

[otherwise his life would become very awkward considering he's engaged to a former CANNIBAL]
