Happy New Years, users.

I'll cut to the chase; the barrier we instilled a few months ago is decaying quickly and we're sorting through the new data as fast as we can. This barrier was originally designed to contain a rogue error. There are several of you who have taken care of this issue and from here we will handle the rest...thank you. The influx of data will help us decode our next steps.

As mentioned, we've spent December tracing several magical sources that are coming up in our readings. We're doing the best we can to trace Clarence--Mr. Vanderweele, and corral the effects he's altering in the city. I believe we're ready to tear down the firewall and begin exploring further. If our information is correct, we're really breaking the boundaries of the layers we've discovered lately! It's exciting, don't you think?

The only information I can offer is that we will need you to be strong no matter what happens. We believe things have changed outside of security measures we've set in place, though we will need more data to understand the best way to stabilize the city from his control. We understand if you cannot and do not wish to help, but please know we're doing everything we can.

Please take care.

I've seen it before-- you used your staff to activate it, right?

But that's alright. I don't think any of us are really experts on how our abilities work. We haven't had as much experience as our other selves had at it.

Kinda? My staff mostly just amplifies it and makes it easier to channel spells. But I can still do some spells without it. I also have another device on me that I use to help me with spells, especially the elemental-based ones.

Haha, yeah no kidding. I just get that question a lot: "how does your magic work" - I never know how exactly to answer.

... oh. Yeah, I think I know what you mean by that. My sword sort of does the same thing, too, and I know a couple of other people who can only activate their powers with something else.

What is this other device that you have, though?

[He doesn't mean to be so nosy, but since he has elemental magic himself, he's curious to know how similar it is to his own.]

Does it? I haven't heard of a magic sword yet. Well, with retrospec stuff anyway.[Magic swords are pretty normal in fiction ok]

It's called an ARCUS. It looks like a large flip phone, but it holds and channels energy from magical quartz in a way that lets me use their magic.

It's weird, since it looks like a normal sword, and can cut like one too... but it makes my talismans stronger whenever I use it with them. It can disappear inside of my hand, too, which I... still haven't figured out how that works, exactly.

[Like, does it go to a pocket dimension? Does it dissolve and reform from tiny bits of light?? DOES HE JUST HAVE AN INVISIBLE SWORD SHOVED UP HIS ARM?? The questions are endless and the answers are sadly non-existent.]

But that's... interesting. It sounds a lot easier to carry around when you need it. At least, easier than a bunch of paper slips, anyway. Do you ever need to replace the quartz, or is it a permanent thing?

Oh wow...that has to be magic alright. Maybe some kind of magic booster? and uh...do you feel anything when it disappear in your hand?

[Since that sounds painful???]

Yeah, it is. It fits in my coat pocket pretty well. And I don't exactly have to replace them, though I'll need to swap them out if I need to use a different spell.

Not... really? It sort of breaks down into light, and I can feel it disappearing in my hand, but... nothing more than that. It's kind of like pushing a bunch of energy into my palm, if that makes sense? Still, it's better than having to remember to take it with me everywhere. Even if normal people didn't pay attention to it, it was still awkward.

... actually, is that the same with your staff, too? Or are you able to summon it?

Huh...it sorta makes sense, I guess? At least, I can picture it. Couldn't start to explain what was going on though. Still, sounds handy...no pun intended.

Not exactly. It can be shortened to fit in a violin case though.
