I came home to find this guy in my apartment. Anyone know anything about owls? It's acting like it knows me! Like, IT'S WAVING!

Old pet? Who has an owl this huge as a pet? I'm pretty sure this is an eagle owl. It has a six foot wing span and two inch long talons!

I tried that. I opened my window and it flew away. But then it came back, with a mouse in it's beak no less and proceeded to eat it in front of me. And by the way, I have a cat, and he is pissed. He won't stop hissing at the owl.

No. It's mine. I'm not sure what do to with it, but I definitely feel attached to it for some reason. Mine.

Yes, I have an owl. Yes, it waved at me. And yes, I think this is related to the owl I saw in a memory I got a while ago. I think it's the same exact owl to be honest.

maybe it was domesticated there's probably an animal sanctuary that can care for it but I think birds are specific

Well, I might drop by the sanctuary to find out how to take care of this owl, but I'm definitely keeping him. Even if my cat protests.

I think it is more of he knows the "other me". But do you know what kind of care is needed to take care of owls, specifically an eagle owl? I'm pretty sure he's an eagle owl. Actually, I don't even know if it's a HE! How do you tell gender?

If you're that worried, there should be a wildlife sanctuary you can give this guy to.

No, it doesn't have any tags or bands. It came with a cage, but I don't feel it's very humane to lock a bird up in a cage this small for long. It think it's more for transport. I don't want to give it away. I feel strangely attached to it.

A group of owls is called a parliament (so I assume that makes your singular owl a noble parliamentarian!).

For one thing, you'll likely find that when he flies, you won't be able to hear him — owls have feathers that are specially adapted for quiet flight, which helps them hunt more effectively. He's also adapted in a number of other ways for that pursuit, from the eyes that let him see great distances and provide better depth perception than a human's, to the talons that are adapted for skillful gripping and manipulation of his prey. The shape of his face is designed to better funnel sound to his ears, as well — which makes it possible for him to hear sounds that a human wouldn't, besides.

Also, I hope you're not superstitious, because the omens that tend to be associated with owls in legends and myths aren't particularly favorable ones.

Oh my gosh, Carmen, that was super helpful. I am not superstitious really, at least not with omens. How do you know so much about owls?Do you know about owl care at all? Like should I buy it food besides what it hunts for itself? Wing care? Cleaning?

I feel like I would insult it if I gave it away, so I do plan on keeping it. But I should probably give it a name, but I don't know the gender. Should I just settle for some unisex name?

Not that I've been this close to any other owl, but yes, I have to agree it's very cute. Especially when it puffs up like this.

Eeeee, it's cute!! Did you wave back? Also are owls supposed to be awake in the daytime? I thought they were nocturnal.

It didn't wave back, it just flat out waved.
It is clearly a bird of higher intelligence. Also, I have no idea what it is awake in broad daylight when I first got it. It is not on a more nocturnal sleep schedule now.
