Has anyone here formed an opinion on their past (or other) self? Is it positive or is it negative? If negative, how do you deal with it?

I ignore it completely. That life has nothing to do with the one I live now, so why bother acknowledging it?

Past me was weird. Always afraid but jumping into danger.

I think it's probably okay, but I'm still deciding if she's a positive force or a negative one.

Sometimes it takes time to form an opinion. It can also change, too, with time. Mine did.

My "other me" is a bratty teenager who has no friends. And then I think he gets involved in something shady. But since I only see him as a teenager, I hope that he turns his life around.

I can understand that, somewhat.

Especially the getting into something shady part.

Hope your other self does improve.

By reminding myself that my life is separate from his, and I am under no obligation to repeat the mistakes he made.
I also write down the memories, as it helps me think about them more objectively.

That's a good way to think. Maybe I should write mine down, too.

[ although he's not too sure if it would help him think objectively... it's hard to do that when he has to deal with the fact that the 'other him' may or may not have killed people. ]

I mean, my other self isn't all that different, honestly. Different circumstances, but still just a normal college student. So I can't judge him too harshly.

There are parts of that other life that I envy, to an extent. But in other ways, I'm glad to be living my own life instead. Does that make sense?

but if it's a negative one, then i'd say a lot of people try to improve themselves to counteract that. or take measures to ensure they don't become like that

Deeply negative, in my case. Though how it's dealt with would depend on the reason for the negativity, I'd think - there's a difference in remembering that you used to be a reckless idiot and remembering that you were actively engaged in terrible things.

She's a monster. Both in deeds and literally. I try not to think about it.

In deeds I understand but, if you're not human, doesn't that just make you "not human"?

I made some questionable decisions but I think I was alright.
I mean I've remembered enough to understand some of what I did back then.
It could be a lot worse, I think.

The problem with forcing an opinion on someone is that you may actually ignore what made them that way. They had a completely different life with a different way of viewing the world. Forcing them to fit in the world that you view is only going to cause trouble later on.

That's true. However, there are some things that are terrible no matter what their past was. For example, getting hired to kill someone.

and seemed to think it was his purpose in life or something
so I feel kind of weird about that

Something like that happened to me. Except it was my job.

There's been a few people who have elected to ignore this. I'm part of that club. I have no opinion of them because I don't believe they existed to begin with.

I haven't really remembered all that much about him yet, so I don't feel that I can draw any accurate conclusions about what he was like. But . . . I do feel somewhat uneasy about him.

I... haven't remembered quite enough to form a good or bad opinion.

Mostly, it doesn't feel like the human ideas of good or bad really apply in my case.
