Happy New Years, users.

I'll cut to the chase; the barrier we instilled a few months ago is decaying quickly and we're sorting through the new data as fast as we can. This barrier was originally designed to contain a rogue error. There are several of you who have taken care of this issue and from here we will handle the rest...thank you. The influx of data will help us decode our next steps.

As mentioned, we've spent December tracing several magical sources that are coming up in our readings. We're doing the best we can to trace Clarence--Mr. Vanderweele, and corral the effects he's altering in the city. I believe we're ready to tear down the firewall and begin exploring further. If our information is correct, we're really breaking the boundaries of the layers we've discovered lately! It's exciting, don't you think?

The only information I can offer is that we will need you to be strong no matter what happens. We believe things have changed outside of security measures we've set in place, though we will need more data to understand the best way to stabilize the city from his control. We understand if you cannot and do not wish to help, but please know we're doing everything we can.

Please take care.

Don't even get me started on the number of legal precedents they're violating; I'll be here all day.

Not that I'm terribly surprised - those that find they can get away with such things have an obnoxious tendency to immediately prove why they shouldn't be able to in the first place.

Have you been counting?

[there is a part of him that really wants to ask]

Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely?

...I might have.

But yes, more or less. I'd likely have left it at "sometimes people are just terrible", but that works well enough too.

Maybe we'll get to use it when this is all over.

Mmmm yes, "sometimes people are just terrible" is a bit more succinct and more widely applicable. You don't necessarily need power to be a terrible person.

You often don't; there's likely also something to be said for the pursuit of power, and what people are willing to do to one another to get there.

...People in general are just kind of errors sometimes, aren't they.

Yeah, some more than others.

Speaking of people being errors, where does joining the police force with ulterior motives fall?

drydrown: the magna carta's a nice suggestion (HAUGHTY ♡ judging like john marshall)

That depends on the ulterior motives, I suppose.

Joining in order to get closer to the people he believes are responsible for the murder of someone he cared about rather than seeking to protect people or uphold the law? With the intent on ending said responsible people?

...Legally speaking, I have to condemn that in some way or another, but just on a personal level I'm of the opinion that that's closer to actually living the dream than a lot of people get. If you could do something about something like that, I can't fault you for actually doing it.

Bear in mind that this is coming from someone who wants a certain person from my previous world added to the app solely so I can strongly consider shoving them in front of a train at the nearest opportunity. Grain of salt and all.

Legally speaking of course, I feel the same. But I can't really blame him for feeling the way he does or most of the actions he takes.

[Most of them anyway.]

What would they have to do to avoid the train treatment?

Remain out of my way, honestly.

[Otherwise, train.]

All things considered... fair enough.
