So here's the thing…

We have a lot of work left to do. Those of you who ventured down below got a taste of what we're looking at and hopefully that means we can make better preparations. I'm working on opening a new portal based on your energy readings and getting it to stabilize itself so you aren't stuck down there longer than you have to be. May take a few days, but I'm hoping to get a map drawn up, too.

How many of you have been out to Magatus? You might wanna compare notes…the influence started spreading even further. It's better to bring everything and everyone out there back to the city where we can put up forcefields and I can monitor from here.

So what am I saying? I need two teams, a rescue team and an exploration team. Take some time to decide, figure out your skills, organize and arm yourselves. Assignments will go out when you're ready, and when I'm ready.

Oh yeah…and if you're interested in working for me directly? Send me your résumé.

I've been to Magatus once, last year, and I wouldn't recommend the experience. Not unless the freezing cold or strange illnesses happen to be something you're after. The latter may have just been a one time thing, but...

I'm more concerned over what I saw in the sixth layer. Last year, during the mission to Respatrum, a group I was with came across a similar sort of thing underneath the region... it was a mirror version of the village above us, but it was abandoned. I can't help but wonder if it's connected or not.

[This better be worth busting his ass falling off an infinite stone ladder, that's all he has to say--]

Did you not have your fire spell back then?

And kid... of course it's connected. How? Who knows? But when are things not connected?

I did. But contracting a mysterious sickness that put me in a great deal of pain didn't exactly make it easy to use.

... you have a point, though. It seems like a lot of stuff we had to deal with last year is coming around full circle now. But... if the sixth layer was something we didn't have access to before, I'm not sure how we were able to stumble across something like that by accident.

So your magic goes wonky when you're sick huh? That must be frustrating.

We probably didn't stumble across it by accident. Remember, we are being treated like pawns in some messed up game.

[So many people have cursed around him at this point that his ears are never going to be pure again. But the effort is appreciated, Derek!!]

It's not that it gets wonky, it's more... I shouldn't be using it when that happens. It's already a drain on my energy, so it would just make things worse if I was sick. [Not that he wouldn't if, say, Sakura's life was on the line, because he's dumb and reckless like that, but...] It wasn't as if I could focus on that at the time, anyway.

Anyway, I can't say I disagree. Considering one of the other missions we went on wound up revealing Vanderweele's replica staff, we probably had a reason for coming across it... even if it wasn't immediately obvious at the time.

what kind of strange sickness
weirder than flu?

[personal profile] cardcaptured 2019-03-02 12:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Much weirder than the flu.

Last I checked, the flu didn't give you strange glowing marks all over your body that put you through a ton of pain.

It does. It's not exactly something I'd want to go through again.

That was last year, though, so it might have gotten better out there-- or worse. Though I think that one river in the sixth layer last month nearly rivaled it in pain.

I just got over one weird sickness. What was yours?
cardcaptured: <user name=fleeting> | DNS (if I was to be bold)

[personal profile] cardcaptured 2019-03-02 12:23 pm (UTC)(link)
It's... hard to describe. There were these glowing marks that appeared on my body the moment I stepped into the woods there, and they hurt. A lot. It was like they were sapping my energy, and I got a fever on top of that...

This was about a year ago, though, so I'm fine now. But I don't know if that's something that always happens in Magatus, or if I just got there at a bad time.

What about you, though? Was there something you caught in that other layer?
maidofmistakes: Gasping. (You are singlehandedly the most cursed)

[personal profile] maidofmistakes 2019-03-02 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Not really, but a couple weeks ago. Do not touch those glowy green rocks you find around town sometimes. I just got near one and just about passed out.
cardcaptured: <user name=fleeting> | DNS (You're so sweet to try)

[personal profile] cardcaptured 2019-03-02 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Glowing green rocks...?

Wait, they can't be radioactive, can they? If they're enough to make someone pass out, shouldn't more people know about this? Unless this is another one of the weird things Vanderweele is sending into the city...

The village in Respartrum. Where you able to find out anything about it? Or was it like the reversed city last month? Just... there but nothing to explain how it came to be that way?

The latter.

I don't think we were supposed to come across it in the first place. We were originally asked to look into a myth about an infinite ladder but we wound up finding that at the bottom instead. We didn't spend much time exploring it, since we were all hurt at the time... but I did feel something off down there. Sort of like... spirits, I think.
invocate: (Default)

[personal profile] invocate 2019-03-02 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)

The village was at the bottom of the ladder? Maybe the spirits were the ones who used to live there... Did you sense any spirits in the sixth layer last month?

[just going to bite her tongue on asking questions about how he got hurt... at least until later. mostly b/c she knows she doesn't have a leg to stand on in regards to getting hurt last February..]

Wow, really? I didn't know there was something like that in Respatrum.
...Do you think that means all the regions around Retrospec have weird abandoned mirror versions underneath them somewhere?
cardcaptured: <user name=tanabata> (5)

[personal profile] cardcaptured 2019-03-04 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Remember how they sent us to investigate those stories last year? I went with Mio, Tsukasa, and Ayano to check out the infinity ladder, and we wound up finding that at the bottom. We didn't investigate it for too long, but now I sort of wish we did.

But it's entirely possible. We won't know for sure until Zee does... whatever he's doing and we see Magatus' sixth layer ourselves. It makes me wonder why they're there in the first place.
floret: (i was thinking about the easy courage)

[personal profile] floret 2019-03-16 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
I wonder whether people really used to live down there, or if those places were just... generated, sort of. Like echoes...
Or beta versions.

cardcaptured: <user name=endlesseight site=plurk.com> (Never alone no no)

[personal profile] cardcaptured 2019-03-04 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
No. Though I think it had something to do with the forest there. I didn't start getting sick until I stepped through it, but being out of the woods didn't fix it either.

This was all about a year ago, though, so it's hard to say whether it was something affecting the region or not. I haven't gone back since because of it, though.
sleepingknight: ([Listen] where dreams)

[personal profile] sleepingknight 2019-03-04 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
Magical retrospec illness.

Something affecting the region... like maybe it's just not an issue anymore, like how stuff around here just kind of temporarily breaks?
