So here's the thing… We have a lot of work left to do. Those of you who ventured down below got a taste of what we're looking at and hopefully that means we can make better preparations. I'm working on opening a new portal based on your energy readings and getting it to stabilize itself so you aren't stuck down there longer than you have to be. May take a few days, but I'm hoping to get a map drawn up, too. How many of you have been out to Magatus? You might wanna compare notes…the influence started spreading even further. It's better to bring everything and everyone out there back to the city where we can put up forcefields and I can monitor from here. So what am I saying? I need two teams, a rescue team and an exploration team. Take some time to decide, figure out your skills, organize and arm yourselves. Assignments will go out when you're ready, and when I'm ready. Oh yeah…and if you're interested in working for me directly? Send me your résumé. Zee Carlisle Hiring Manager Retr ![]()

I'm more concerned over what I saw in the sixth layer. Last year, during the mission to Respatrum, a group I was with came across a similar sort of thing underneath the region... it was a mirror version of the village above us, but it was abandoned. I can't help but wonder if it's connected or not.
[This better be worth busting his ass falling off an infinite stone ladder, that's all he has to say--]
no subject
And kid... of course it's connected. How? Who knows? But when are things not connected?
no subject
... you have a point, though. It seems like a lot of stuff we had to deal with last year is coming around full circle now. But... if the sixth layer was something we didn't have access to before, I'm not sure how we were able to stumble across something like that by accident.
no subject
We probably didn't stumble across it by accident. Remember, we are being treated like pawns in some messed up game.
[Xiaolang, he hopes you appreciate how he held back from swearing in his response to you. He's trying to be a good role model here.]

It's not that it gets wonky, it's more... I shouldn't be using it when that happens. It's already a drain on my energy, so it would just make things worse if I was sick. [Not that he wouldn't if, say, Sakura's life was on the line, because he's dumb and reckless like that, but...] It wasn't as if I could focus on that at the time, anyway.
Anyway, I can't say I disagree. Considering one of the other missions we went on wound up revealing Vanderweele's replica staff, we probably had a reason for coming across it... even if it wasn't immediately obvious at the time.

weirder than flu?
no subject
Last I checked, the flu didn't give you strange glowing marks all over your body that put you through a ton of pain.

that sux

That was last year, though, so it might have gotten better out there-- or worse. Though I think that one river in the sixth layer last month nearly rivaled it in pain.

This was about a year ago, though, so I'm fine now. But I don't know if that's something that always happens in Magatus, or if I just got there at a bad time.
What about you, though? Was there something you caught in that other layer?

Wait, they can't be radioactive, can they? If they're enough to make someone pass out, shouldn't more people know about this? Unless this is another one of the weird things Vanderweele is sending into the city...

I don't think we were supposed to come across it in the first place. We were originally asked to look into a myth about an infinite ladder but we wound up finding that at the bottom instead. We didn't spend much time exploring it, since we were all hurt at the time... but I did feel something off down there. Sort of like... spirits, I think.
no subject
The village was at the bottom of the ladder? Maybe the spirits were the ones who used to live there... Did you sense any spirits in the sixth layer last month?
[just going to bite her tongue on asking questions about how he got hurt... at least until later. mostly b/c she knows she doesn't have a leg to stand on in regards to getting hurt last February..]

...Do you think that means all the regions around Retrospec have weird abandoned mirror versions underneath them somewhere?
no subject
But it's entirely possible. We won't know for sure until Zee does... whatever he's doing and we see Magatus' sixth layer ourselves. It makes me wonder why they're there in the first place.
no subject
Or beta versions.
un: Lily
Okay, so strange illness. No idea what caused it, either?
no subject
This was all about a year ago, though, so it's hard to say whether it was something affecting the region or not. I haven't gone back since because of it, though.
no subject
Something affecting the region... like maybe it's just not an issue anymore, like how stuff around here just kind of temporarily breaks?

Ah... I don't... think so? I felt some supernatural presences there, but...
